Academics are outstanding. Children are well ahead of Public School peersTeacher was unfairly rigid. Would single out children and shame them in front of class. Multiple complaints. School is not able to handle bullying, several parents complained but no response.

At Community School, the entire child is nurtured, from academic skills to social relationships and confidence-building. The teachers and staff are warm and welcoming while maintaining high expectations for the children. Parents have ample opportunity for involvement. The facility is excellent: a large shaded play area, a school garden, and large but cozy classrooms. The children are kind to each other and learn to resolve their differences peacefully.

Community School is not a perfect fit for everyone. A few of the staff can be rigid and harsh with unrealistic expectations for behavior. However, many things about this school are very special. The facility is beautiful and warm, and children are given an abundance of time to play in a shaded backyard playground that is truly magical. Students are allowed to learn at their own pace, and they do not rely on grading as a feedback system. This school has it's challenges, but it was an overall great fit and blessing for my child.

I am a teacher, a parent, and a longtime friend of Community School, and I have always found it to be a loving and supportive place for children and their families. Safety and communication are important parts of our Community School family. The July 19, 2010 entry, unfortunately, was posted by a FORMER employee who spent limited time with us. I find her accusations completely inappropriate and misplaced. If you have any doubts, make an appointment to come visit us!!!
