As a long-time resident of nearby Festus and alumni of that school district I was very upset when after buying our home we found that just because the address was in Festus the school district was DeSoto. That meant my elementary aged children would be going to Athena Elementary. My oldest child started there in 5th grade and is now a Senior and my younger two have gone there from kindergarten on up, currently in 7th grade and 3rd grade. My oldest loves this school and told me from the beginning everyone slways made her feel welcome. She is a 3-sport athlete and has had many wonderful coaches, teachers and mentors. My jr. High student has very high-functioning Aspberger's Syndrome and has had an IEP since the first grade. The educators and administration always keep me in the know as to how her goals are being met. I would strongly disagree with anyone who believes the staff at Athena don't genuinely care about and encourage their students. As a former Festus Tiger I can honestly say I have been converted to having Dragon Pride after seeing first hand how great this district is.

Principal, teachers, and family communicate with each other about my child. He has special needs and we all came to very good ideas to help him. Athena is the only school that really helps special needs students.
