Administration whitewashes incidents and panders to parents they believe will give them status. Current administration lacks a moral compass, accountability and experience. The way the school is run is a detriment to the academic and emotional development of the children they are paid to serve.

I am AMAZED at this school and wholeheartedly recommend it. My daughter is excelling beyond belief. It's a nurturing environment that is for gifted and talented children. It is a liberal arts school, and a prep school, as a reviewer mentioned in a different site. The class sizes are very small and potential students must have a letter of recommendation, a strong application, and then they spend a half day with much of the faculty and are tested (which is presented as a "game" for the lower school grades.) The odds of a child getting in are slim. I do know there were 60 applicants for Kindergarten for the upcoming 2014/2015 school year. 16 were chosen. The campus is beautiful, peaceful and tucked away. All teachers have an incredible passion and love the school and their students so much. Everyone around explains it like this, "Students at Woodlawn are extremely smart and really good kids." Just look at their website and the curriculum map they've woven together. They also excel in many sports at the high school level. There are also middle school sports. In 2015/16, they will be expanding and enrollment will increase. It's currently at 201 students. We love just love it!!!

This school delivers! When you want more for your child than teaching to a test, Woodlawn inspires your child to just love learning. Our daughter has been to both private and public schools and Woodlawn 's value and values surpass what all the others offer. My child likes the academic challenge she gets here and will go to school asking for more. 6th grade Shakespere, yes! 6th grade Algerbra, yes! 6th grade biology, yes! But don't forget the string instruments, square dancing and all inclusive sports. If you could dream up a perfect academic plan, this would be it!

This is our first year at Woodlawn. We transferred from public school and were looking for a school that would prepare our child for college. We were hooked from the moment we stepped on campus. The breathtaking campus, the caring and engaging faculty and the small class size was more than we ever expected to find within our doorstep. We feel so fortunate to be able to give the gift of a Woodlawn Education and experience to our child. It 's a gift that will go on giving for a lifetime. Check out Woodlawn! It's a hidden gem!

we chose this school because of the unique culture that it instills in children: that of lifelong learning, working in a collaborative way with other students, valuing the input and gifts of all other students, and truly serving one's fellow human being and being a steward of our environment. On top of those incredibly important core values it imparts into our children, the school's amazing teachers and curriculum have produced brilliant students who are accepted at top (including Ivy League) universities around the country. We are so incredibly grateful to have the chance to send our children here.

We have found Woodlawn to be an exemplary school for our EG (exceptionally gifted) children. My children s needs were not being met through the TD program at their public school. They were constantly bored and spent hours at school and home doing mindless busy work. We overlooked Woodlawn at first because they do not advertise that they are a school that meets the needs of highly gifted children. However, we are from the Northeast and decided to try it out after reading that Woodlawn graduates gained acceptance to schools such as Yale and Princeton, in addition to most of the Mini Ivies. We are so grateful that we did. Our children are engaged daily with challenging work and projects. They are learning material at least a year ahead of their friends in similar grades. But most importantly, they can t wait to go to school every day.

Woodlawn is Charlotte's best kept secret. If you're looking for a school that will not only challenge your children but teach them respect and service learning, this is an unbelievable place. It's hard to find the words to describe what an experience my children are receiving at Woodlawn. They absolutely love going to school each day. They have developed long lasting friendships and relationships with teachers and staff. Most importantly they get individual attention they deserve in each and every class. It's a wonderful family /community feel that I know we can't find anywhere else in this area.

Founded in 2002, Woodlawn School is an independent, accredited, nonprofit K-12 school located just north of Davidson, NC. Our mission is to produce independent, lifelong learners who are responsible, contributing members of a diverse global society. Culture at Woodlawn is characterized by communal respect and trust, personal freedom and responsibility, and spirited involvement in campus life through athletics and student organizations. We are truly a student-centered school; students help shape policy, design and lead clubs, and organizations, and work in partnership with their teachers to create meaningful experiences and traditions. Our intimate size fosters a close-knit community that is, in many ways, a family.

my son was bored in pre-K and did not enjoy going. He is naturally shy. He has a keen sense of fairness and is very sensitive to bullying toward himself or other students. By the end of his first year at Woodlawn, (kindergarten), he was jumping out of the car every day, loved the challenge and individualized care given by his teachers, volunteered to do a poetry reading at the school talent show (his self esteem had soared), and considered every other student in his class to be one of his best friends. He loves interacting with the older kids on campus who are truly some of the most caring, helpful, kindhearted kids I have ever seen. Woodlawn trains the entire character of the person, and challenges them to be better in every aspect of their learning. We are lifelong fans and could not be more thankful for the transformation in our son.

My child transferred to Woodlawn from a public high school and has never looked back. The only regret is that they didn't transfer sooner. The intimate class sizes, challenging curriculum and personal involvement of faculty in each and every student makes for a wonderful learning environment. My child is not only being prepared to go to college but also beyond. Check out Woodlawn!

This school is amazing! My kids and their friends love learning here. The curriculum is truly integrated - they don't just say it, they mean it! There is no "experimental education" going on here. The curriculum is completely transparent for all to review online and parents are invited on a regular basis to see what the students have been learning. The teachers are excellent; they truly know the kids and care for them. The only drawback may be the inconsistencies I have seen in administration leadership and discipline procedures, although discipline issues are not prevalent at all (from what I have witnessed). My kids love going to school!

This school is truly a unique gem in the area. My daughter went to public school and was, in my opinion, not getting the education she deserved. The atmosphere is very condusive to learning there. She has had fantastic teachers so far. I love the fact that they dont just look at books and tests but integrate many hands on activities which reinforce the lesson.. cant say enough!!
