My school is lovely and clean and welcoming. Because of the school population (96% on free lunch), this school struggles with kids who do not have English as their first language. This school has been under state direction for the last few years. The embracing staff has begun to turn the low school grade around. The teachers and staff are so burdened with the expectations of the FCAT and the enormous amount of time they are mandated to spend on this constant testing, there is little time to do the creative and imaginative and collaborative work good teachers must do. Our school is trying so hard! The place is quite joyous some of the time. I wish the teachers could be unleashed to try their wings on doing some real teaching. I get the feeling that they could! I wish there were more time for the arts, for hands-on stuff, for conversation and for teachers to hunker down with each other and talk pedagogy (NOT the procedures of testing!). With the testing being so paramount, I see little time and energy left over for those incredible activities kids will remember forever - and build on. This school is warm and striving. The principal is energetic and practical. This is Florida!

When you ask for help for your child you can not get it. Teachers come and go and you do not get to know the teachers because of that.
