EHE has a lot of things going for it, but it is not a good place for my special needs kid. They do care and they try hard, but their methods for disabilities are harmful. Other CCPS schools handle disabilities much better. PLEASE learn more about common disabilities and get better training!

I've had 2 kids go k-5 in this school. The teachers are wonderful. The staff and administration is terrific! Always helpful and quick to take care of any concerns.

I have ALWAYS had prompt responses from the teachers and administrative and support staff at EHES. I have called meetings with teachers and guidance staff and feel that they consider us a TEAM to educate my child.Parents who complain about "security" must have lived in a very urban setting previously that had the buildings locked down completely. It's sad that they feel that schools should be removed from the community and that parents should be treated with SUSPICION as soon as they walk in. The EHES office staff take pains to get to know the parents of their students. They KNOW which child belongs to me.I also volunteer at the school and have undergone the background check so maybe it's just that the school KNOWS that I don't have a criminal record. Maybe the "parent" who reviewed the school on 9/11 came from a Metro DC school where there are a LOT more students and they MUST lock up the schools as soon as the students enter. I have to wonder what the elementary schools where that parent moved from do for recess - if they send the kids out to a high-fenced yard with barbed wire strung across the top like a prison yard.EHES WANTS parents involved with the educational process. They WANT parents to come in and have lunch with the students. They WANT parents to volunteer. And newsflash - parents are supposed to be the FIRST teachers of their children. They are SUPPOSED to be helping to educate THEIR OWN CHILDREN. If parents expect to not have to help educate their own children, they should just NOT HAVE THEM or apply for a grant to send their kids off to BOARDING SCHOOL.

Where to start...., well let's start at walked into the school. Yes in today's world you would assume that you have to be greeted by office staff over an intercom or window to get into the school.... Not emerald hill. Just walk in. If you feel like stopping at the office to run you ID through the computer go ahead... If not just sign in as who you feel like being that day and no one will know the diffweence! Ok obviously SECURITY of our children is a major issue for this school. Secondly they expect that the parents Are super involved and are willing and able to teach their own children their weekly homework assignments. This has been an ongoing problem for us the past 3 years. Lastly when you request a meeting with your child's teachers when you realize they are failing.......the teacher is unavailable because she has paid tutoring sessions after school daily. If you choose to live in Culpeper county home school your child. You will spend as much time working on homework or the commute to school. My son also has an hour bus ride to and from school. So 4 hours of homework daily then travel time of 2 hours daily....

When moving to Culpeper, we specifically sought out houses that were zoned for this school due to the recommendations of fellow teachers and friends. We have not been disappointed. The teachers have been wonderful with our daughter and take the time to reach each student. Class sizes have been great (19 in kindergarten, 21 in 1st grade), teacher response time has been expeditious. I look forward to having my other 3 children attend Emerald Hill.

Research carefully before you enroll. EH has steadily gone downhill in recent years. There is no phonics instruction, no textbooks, and the curriculum has been dumbed down. Students in upper grade math classes counting on their fingers...this is in the average to advanced class. No emphasis on academics...end of year ceremony celebrates those in safety patrol, knitting club, physical fitness...no mention of honor roll, AR, science fair, county spelling bee, county math competition, etc. For a school that claims a mission of creating lifelong learners there is little emphasis placed on true academic achievement. Disciplinary action for minor infractions like sticking out one's tongue at another student, but chaos in the classroom (students running around or playing on the floor during instruction time) is not considered out of the ordinary. If you are looking for a rigorous academic setting that prepares students for academics beyond elementary school, look elsewhere.

This school acts as if you do not have lots of money you and your kids mean nothing to them. This school is full of hypocrites. Enjoy if you come from money. I will leave this place soon to better my children.

Review the test scores closely. They have fallen steadily since 2007. Culpeper County has so few elementary schools that are accredited, everyone flocks to this one that is. It seems to now have an over crowding issue. Little supervision during the lunch period and poor teacher student ratios.

Both my children attend here and every teacher, staff member and principal have been wonderful! My kids are excelling in their classes. The teachers interact with parents and encourage their involvement. A+ school.
