After reading the other comments left on this website, I wholeheartly disagree. I have never had an issues with staff and I do not know about you but if a staff memeber is "rude" about letting a parent in or allowing pick up then I always want a "rude" staff member at the front desk! SECURITY IS EVERYTHING!!! You can't expect someone to just "let you in" based off the fact you say you have a child that attends, you have to prove it. Good on them, I applaud the staff for keeping all of our children safe!I digress, As a parent with a special needs child you can expect for us to be on extreme alert when it comes to the placement of our children, considering majority of children with special needs have delayed speech and can't tell us if something is wrong. With that being said, when my child is excited to go to school and is in absolute awe with the teacher, this tells me I do not need to worry. My child has advanced since attending this school in the following areas: speech, patience, playing well with others, manners, can recognize names of items, the list goes on!!!! I am excited what the rest of her time here holds!Grade: Special Needs Pre-K

The worst school in Newton County! The staff is rude, the teachers are lazy and do mediocre work. They do not really want to see the kids advance; meaning, if your child is more advanced than others in the class they still have to wait on the other kids. This then leads them not wanting to do the work and school becomes boring. Don’t even get me started on the virtual side of things, which is a joke and the parent might as well be the teacher. The principal does not want to communicate with you when you have a issue. I will say that their is only one teacher there which she teaches Kindergarten that is awesome (Ms. Armbruster) but I mean one teacher does not cut it. I would not recommend allowing your child to go there if you have other options.

Overall I think the school is fair, but working to become a great school. It is economically challenged but the teachers are caring and very good,

Worst school ever. Half of me thinks this school should be investigated for cheating but if that were true I dont know why they never reach their AYP. We moved my son to another Newton Co. school where they did testing to see where he was academically. At Porterdale he scored slightly above his grade level for reading. The same test was issued at the other Newton Co. School and he scored well below his grade level in reading. He tested at below a first grade level for reading in the third grade!! At the end of the school year in the other School he was tested again and he tested at a 3.8 grade level. That is a huge improvement!!! I believe they pass kids through whether they can read or not. The teachers that we dealt with do not care and give the children the extremely easiest assignments. We go to church with several teachers from the same county and they all agreed that this school district is believed to just pass kids through. If your children are white you can expect them to be bullied and the administration to do nothing about it. Just an FYI.
