Outstanding Leadership by Mrs. Luna and Mr. Eldridge. Their Commitment to out children's education and well being is top priority. School spirit and parental involvement is the best I have ever experienced. The PTA Is composed of such Smart and dedicated Volunteers, that are funding so many superb events and really impacting the kids in a positive direction. My son completed 6th grade there a couple of years ago and my daughter is now enrolled in the Dual emerge program. Additionally, It says allot about a school when year after year District leaders, Community leaders and First respondents enroll their children in this school.

They don’t respect different races/ethnicities. Black students are completely overlooked and often subjected to discrimination. Many Black students are not getting the support they need to succeed.

Very professional staff starting from the office. Coming from a big school just moved to Garretson, I was impressed of the staff from even the simple first call when I was inquiring about a transfer. Our teacher Mrs.Rubio C. Is amazing, very knowledgeable skills of teaching and a heart for education like no other. Everyone on the campus is extremely nice, the morning staff waiting for the kids at the gate are so sweet, prior school we went the gate ladies would just simply yell at the kids to walk faster to class or literally at times yell for no reason. I am so happy we came to this school, is a true blessing to be part of the Garretson Team.

The GATE program at this school is superb. The teachers are committed, passionate and creative. My two kids commute from a neighborhood with a school whose Great Schools rating is a nine but I'm confident that my kids are obtaining an education far superior to what they would have gotten by staying there. Do your homework beyond this web site. Visit the school and talk to the teachers and parents with kids currently in the program. Three of the four GATE teachers have been teaching GATE full time for 10+ years. You will be hard pressed to find that level of expertise anywhere else. The test scores for this school overall are lower due to the fact that this school serves a predominantly lower income, Spanish-dominant neighborhood but I assure you that the GATE kids are performing well above average, with reading levels several years above their grade level, some at high school level. I could go on, but you should really find out firsthand for yourself if you are serious about your child's education.

Both my children are in the dual immersion program at Garretson. It is fantastic! I am very pleased with the commitment and hard work they put into making it a great cultural learning experience for the kids. If you are hesitant about applying for the dual immersion program, don't be!

Whether your student is advance or in general studies, expect teachers and staff to have emotional issues that they openly share with the children, often about their personal life. My child is now behind educationally when before coming here, he was thriving. God forbid you have a special needs child. We have been told he can't go on field trips without a parent because the teacher has other students to keep track of, my child has been yelled at for falling to much in the over crowded unorganized classroom, my child has seen teachers leave class in an emotional outburst over the teachers petsonal life and has been seriously neglected by the teachers and staff in providing for his adaptive needs. IEP meetings generally have consisted of only half the involved parties attending, late arrivals, and the principal and teachers texting. Teachers texting and on Facebook or other social medias during class and lesson times is common. If your child has special needs, go somewhere else. This is not a safe, physically or emotionally, school for any student. Seek other options if able. I wish I had been able to sooner, now my children are paying the price.
