Everyone from the office staff to the bus driver are absolutely wonderful. The teachers really care about the kiddos and work hard to help them get the most effective education.

Wonderful! Always a pleasure to deal with the faculty.

Kindergarten was great. First grade was good. Second grade is when all the fun in learning is taken away. The superintendent assured me several times through the school year that children are required to have daily recess; the principal thinks that structured kid friendly work out videos are sufficient. Recess is only even offered twice a week, and even then, god forbid there’s a cloud nearby, the weather is deemed not favorable and no recess is given, indoor recess is still not a much needed break from learning but another structured activity. This is not the only school in the district with this problem, it’s just the one I can speak to. If you believe recess is an important part of young children’s ability to learn, then this school is not for you. I highly recommend calling any other school in the district to find out what their definition and implementation of recess is before enrolling. And onto the educational aspect... if your child went to pre-k or preschool prior to starting kindergarten, be prepared for a very bored kindergartener as yours will already know everything they’re teaching. It will depend on the individual teacher if they can be bothered to challenge an advanced child (we lucked out here). First and second grade education seems fairly standard; HOWEVER, we selected this school prior to kindergarten based on its 8/10 rating on Great Schools, and just 2 years later, has fallen to a 4, so that can speak for itself.

Absolutely love this school and all its employees and helpers!

The reason for this rating lies less with the teacher and more with the horrendous office staff! Complete lack of people skills and extremely rude. Example: We were running late and needed to check-in our daughter through the office. Through the whole process, the staff talked to us as if we were children while making snide remarks. Then, one very rude member in particular became offended when we tried to gain more understanding of a new policy change that was explained VERY poorly. Would not recommend this school because of rude staff.

Only 5 weeks into this school year and I am not impressed. I have had to go out of my way to find out what's been going on in the classroom with my child's grades and behavior because school work and notes are never sent home. It seems as if the only priority is preparing students for testing. Never in my life have I dealt with teachers who are so defensive and rude. My child had a great teacher last year but I unfortunately cannot say the same for this school year.

I have never experienced a school that is so unorganized and non communicative with their parents! We chose this neighborhood in part because of this website's ranking and although we're only three weeks into the school year my child has complained about children and faculty not being nice to her and I've had to become a complete nag in attempting to obtain information regarding homework expectations, how to find her grades, where pick up and drop off is located, how the public after school program works, how to see AR books, and the list goes on and on! Normally I can find the silver lining in any given situation, but so far this school hasn't given me anything to work with other than my daughter says school lunches taste really good!

Double Churches Elementary is an awesome school! The teachers and staff really know the students and truly care for them. It has a very warm and friendly atmosphere and you feel like family. They discipline with love and educate in fun and exciting ways. There are many ways to be involved and a great sense of school spirit.

My son is in Mrs Cooper's Pre-K class. He has really blossomed as a student. Getting him to practice reading and writing was difficult but her methods have made it so much easier. His confidence has grown and he is excited to learn.

This school is one of the best schools I have been in contact to, due to the fact that I am a Grandparent in charge to help one of my 11 Grandchildren. This is one of the 2 Grandchildren living closed. The rest are living in Up State NY, and NJ. I am proud to say that Double Churches Elementary is the school where my grandson was identified as a gifted child and he is so happy to learn more each day. The program for gifted children at St Elmo is a very good program where these children learn more every time the go there. My grandson is on his first grade reading at the third grade level. We are very proud that my grandson goes to Double Churches where all the Staff members are wonderful beginning with Ms Shaw-Powell. M.C. Piane

My family moved from Germany during the school year and my son started First grade here. We noticed immediately that the curriculum here was more advanced than the school my son had moved from. I expressed my concern to my sons teacher and she went out of her way to do what extra she could for him in the classroom and she let me know what I could do to help . The staff is always friendly with exception to the lunch room monitors, but they have a crazy lunch room to maintain. They are always open to parent volunteers or you just stopping in for lunch with your child. You will get out of the school what you put into it!!! They celebrate the children and their achievements everyday but also on special days throughout the year. I think it encourages the kids to do better and also if they do not get recognized and their friends do, it encourages competitive drive which our generation of kids needs. I am nothing but pleased for my son to go to this school and my younger son will be starting preschool there in the fall.

We are moving into the area and called to ask if we could visit the school before we looked into real estate . They told us that we could not visit the school unless we already had arrangements to live within their school zone. Not very welcoming for parents or my son to a new town. Other schools were more than helpful for allowing us to visit their school.

My daughters both love DCE, but we don't love the school board. From Sight Words to CRCT tests, there's a lot of failure coming from the Muscogee county school board. DCE tries, acceptably well for a public school, to provide what's best for the kids, but they have a lot of bogus rules to follow. Generally, I would say that the teachers are above average for a school like this, but they're all stretched very thin. There are too many problem children in the classrooms, and the teachers have no real way to deal with them if their parents won't work together to find a solution. It's just another sad story from public schooling.

My child is bullied daily without a care from any of the staff. The school is behind in academics and doesn't offer much in the way of extra curricular activities. I went here as a kid and it is completely different. It should be a title 1 school. Sooooo many poor kids (not their fault but no parent involvement) that have no parents to be involved and I know because I am class Mom of two classes because there is no one for a whole other class. Sad sad sad

This is an excellant school. I have had 2 children go through this school and have another child still there. I have always been happy with the way with the way things have been handled regarding bullying and I can tell you it is not tolerated there. If the teachers and principal are made aware of it then it is taken care of and they are not afraid to suspend a student when it is needed. They always have teachers in the Top 10 for MCSD Teacher of the Year and this past year they had the winner for the New Teacher of the Year. Parental involvement is always welcomed and encouraged. Love this school!

My children go to DCE, and they love their school! I think they have great programs and my children are always motivated to keep learning. They do ballon walks to recognize the students effort and they also provide wild cat tickets to those students that collaborate and follow the school and classroom rules. By the way, the principal, staff, and teachers are very friendly and they are always willing to help with any question we might have!
