OMS is highly recommended for 6th and 7th grades, but 8th grade is another story, depending on what team the students get put on. Our child has only had excellent teachers, and our family has always thought highly of the school district. This is the first school year we have been disappointed in OMS. We can all agree that there will always be teachers that students and parents are not 100% fond of, but this year was different. The number of parents and students complaining about the English I class on a specific team is mindboggling. The students and parents talk to one another, so everyone knows the difference between one English I class and another at OMS and NGC. The parents know one English I class is more demanding and harder than the rest. We know parents complained to the district last year, and the solution was moving those students to a different team, which is why many parents decided not to go to the district this year -- no hope for change. We also know that moving students to a different team was a solution for some students again this year. While the assistant principal has been very active in trying to help with all the complaints, for which all the students and parents are thankful, the principal's lack of action and empathy is a major concern. If a concern is brought to the principal's attention, he quickly dismisses the complaint and offers no solutions or ways to help. It does not matter if 1 or 1,000 students complain about the same issue; he will not stick up for the person(s) on the other end but will always make excuses for what you are trying to bring to his attention. There is a quick answer or reason for EVERYTHING! Do not go to the principal expecting any resolution for problems because he simply does not care and will do nothing. There is no "let me look into this" and get back to you; the conversation is done! This issue extends beyond the current students at OMS. It is about the students who endured a similar experience last year and will face the same challenges after current students leave. The problem is more than just moving kids from one team to another; it is about the quality of education and the learning environment at OMS. If the district truly values the students at OMS, they must thoroughly evaluate the English I course and the teacher. The school's reputation, particularly with 8th grade, is rapidly deteriorating and will only worsen if nothing is done.

I like the school its really nice it just feels like for me the other kids get a slap on the wrist while the rest of us get ISS or STOP.

I’m a new student at oms and i would say this school is pretty cool. Academically, the kids do really well especially compared to my other school. Always focused, classrooms are always peaceful. When it comes to teachers, some are better then others. I’d say the teachers here are pretty boring but I barely see any mean ones and all of them get the job done. I love the guidance counselors and the staff aside from the teachers. They made me feel really welcomed and even provided new school supplies for me. I’m still new, so I haven’t seen much, but as far as I’ve seen the school does well in making sure all special ed kids are included although there aren’t many here. The school feels safe. Sometimes it feels too safe to point I get freaked out at how home-y it feels. When it comes to families getting involved, I haven’t seen much of it but then again, I’m new, so I’m neutral on that. Only complaint about this school: as a young person, it’s hard for me to view school as an entertaining place. I would like if there was more stuff happening socially. The kids here seem to just go to their classes, do their work, talk a bit and go home. It seems no one here has a social life and that’s horrible for me since I’m tryna get to know people. But then again that’s just me and my emotions. The school seems to care a lot about sports which I love. (Just had a pep rally today) I love how well Oakridge balances sports and learning, it’s so refreshing. The variety of classes of the arts is so cool to see. Drama, dance, etc. So much room for creativity. I would rate this school a 7.5/10 and maybe it’ll get higher after I get over my “new kid” phase lol

The schools homework is efficient and helps others! They care about everyone! Miss Meek a councilor is the best she helps when your being bullied or anything! She does her best and so do the teachers!

HomeworkI think that the homework they gave out in my time in OMS was effective at continuing the lesson that we had started learning in class that day.TeachersI had at least 2 teachers in every grade that i would come back and visit in the mornings before homeroom.LeadershipI think that the leadership in the school was effective at keeping the peace though sometimes it could feel like they were breathing down our necks.CharacterMy only serious complaint with this school is that we never really learned anything about character and what i mean by that is that the most they did to shape our character is to ban curse words.Learning Differences as someone with a learning disability I can say that they were very good at helping me and treating me like I am normal.BullyingThe administration was usually onto anything happening between students with the first couple of days.

Horrible! Worst decision we ever made was moving from Charlotte-Meck to the Clover School District. More specifically, Oakridge Middle School. The elementary schools seem to be amazing as does the high school. Something is going on within Oakridge Middle and all their little cliques. I truly do not believe they have the children's best interest at heart. The communication is absolutely horrible with the administrators and counselors.... no one really seems to care when issues arise. They just want to brush it aside and not communicate with the parents or children and then just move on. I think if they get rid of several teachers and and hire new ones to form better teams, things may get straightened out to the better.

Very Happy with the education my children have gotten at OMS. The school is very good at balancing education and community involvement. The principal Mr. Largen is always there for the kids and involves himself in all the school activities.

This is a great middle school and school district! The teachers will go the extra mile when needed and the academics are top notch, but the proof is in the test scores. Just do your research and you will see what a great school this is.

This school is very poorly run, the teachers are subpar, and although I have run into a few teachers who care about the students, the majority of those I've encountered do not. I do not feel comfortable allowing my child to attend Oakridge Middle School due to the poor quality of education and uncaring environment.

Oakridge is an outstanding Middle School both Academically and in Athletics. The Principal is actively inolved in all aspects of the school and very approachable as are the tachers. The school offers a wide variety of activities and opportunities for the kids and parents to get involved. The two years my son was there were very enjoyable.
