During covid my son was failing online. He has aspergers. Dunedin high school suggested we transfer him to Bayside. Best choice we ever made

My son was going to Boca Ciega HS and was not doing well. He was skipping school and failing classes. There were huge fights on a daily basis and the teachers spend all day reprimanding the students instead of teaching. We decided to apply to Bayside HS for his junior year and it was the best decision! It's practically impossible to skip school there and the teachers and staff are great! His grades have improved to mostly A's & B's which I have not seen since middle school. They have a good credit recovery program, so he is on track to graduate on time despite failing grades in the past. He actually likes going to school and has made some good friends. He gets himself up at 5:00 to get to the bus on time as if he looks forward to it. It's amazing! They are strict with cell phone policy but that is a good thing because my son seems to have no self control with the phone. After getting it taken away several times he is following the rules better now. The staff really seems to care about the students and they talk to them like human beings versus a number at a very large school. He got into a little trouble with the vice principal and I was called in to discuss things. They had a very positive discussion with my son about making good choices and hanging around with the right crowd. The school itself if brand new and really clean and nice. I was a little worried that he might do worse because he would be surrounded by kids who have been failing, but he is doing so much better and the kids there all want to succeed, that is why they are there versus dropping out. I highly recommend this school!
