So much diversity I'm asian and whatever and they seem more accepting of different ethnic groups. There isn't much staring like from the catholic school kids it doesn't seem racial that much.

I would not recommend Colerain High School or Northwest Local School District to anyone. We have one child in Cincinnati Public and two children in Northwest Local School Districts. Our experience with Cincinnati Public has been stellar in comparison to Northwest. We did not realize how great Cincinnati Public had been for us until we had to deal with Northwest. Top complaints:-Subpar education. Our 9th grader at Colerain is taking all offered Honors level courses (course options are Advanced, Honors, AP, CCP) and, yet, the curriculum for our 7th grader in Cincinnati Public is more advanced. -Colerain High School categorizes ALL of their classes as "Advanced" or higher to help student-athletes gain acceptance into Division 1 schools. This increases the athlete's chances of acceptance because their GPA reflects that they completed advanced-level courses. However, it does not serve that student long-term when they cannot keep up with the demands of the D1 school's curriculum. This is such a massive indicator of NWLSD's character. I think it is shameful.-Violence and drug use. Our 9th and 11th graders have witnessed an unbelievable amount of violence and drug use at school. They have both witnessed fights that left students and staff in need of hospitalization. They have both repeatedly witnessed other students being high on drugs at school.-Poor policies that negatively impact families. Northwest makes being a parent more difficult. For example, Cincinnati Public does NO planned two-hour delays or early releases. Northwest Local is keen on adding this kind of ridiculousness to their schedule. They offer NO bus service to High School students so these policies mean all parents have to drop kids off at school and pick them up again 4.5 hours later. It is impossible to go to work on these days.

Sexual assault and harassment is punished by a slap on the wrist. A girl was assaulted after multiple people complained about a student because nothing was done about his behavior despite at least 3 students and a couple parent’s complained. Administration sucks but there’s a few good teachers who genuinely care for their students, it’s sad they have to be associated with this school.

Colerain is a great school with great teachers. Most of the kids are respectful.

Probably similar to high schools with high percentage of low income students. Grade point average is meaningless because As are handed out like candy. Diploma is no more than an attendance certificate versus proof of subject mastery. Teachers do the best they can with the quality of students that live there. My "top 5% student" is poorly prepared for college. Even he is disgusted by the low expectations.

To be honest, I wasn't the star student. But the teachers never gave up on me. I felt that the staff genuinely cared about me. The only thing I didn't like was the outdated textbooks and the policy. The policy needs to be less restrictive and kids will be productive. -Will W Class of 2014

The biggest problem with Colerain High School is that the behavioral issues are beyond horrendous.

Overall I like the school. I think it starts too early, but there isn't much that the school can do about that. The parents aren't the best influences on their children, but at this age they aren't too involved anyway.

I am a parent of an upcoming sophomore, and I have had nothing but positive experiences with the students and staff of Colerain High School. It is easy for me I to stay on top of my child's progress because his teachers update Progress Book regularly. The music program is incredible. My child is challenged and encouraged in both marching band and wind symphony. I have found the level of parent participation in the band program to be amazing. This only happens because of the excellent directors and how well they communicate with both the students and parents. I am confident my son is getting a well-rounded education that will prepare him for success in college. (This is, of course, contingent on this community supporting the district by passing the levy this November.) The person who commented on the school not using its money wisely needs to understand that the new scoreboards were paid for by the Colerain Booster organization. This money is raised through donations from alumni, parents of current students, and community members. NONE of it is tax money. The Colerain Boosters make it possible for students to follow their passion, whether it is in the arts or athletics.
