This school is truly a gem in the community! As a parent, I have been consistently impressed by the nurturing and inclusive environment this school provides. The teachers are not only highly qualified but also deeply passionate about their students’ success. They go above and beyond to ensure that each child feels valued and supported in their learning journey. The curriculum at Prescott is well-rounded, emphasizing not just academic excellence but also creativity, critical thinking, and social-emotional growth. My child has flourished in this environment, thanks to engaging classroom activities, enriching extracurricular programs, and a strong focus on individual development. The school leadership is exceptional, always approachable, and open to feedback. The principal and staff foster a culture of collaboration between parents, teachers, and students. Additionally, the school’s facilities are clean, maintained, and equipped to support a variety of learning styles. What sets Prescott apart is its strong sense of community. Events like family nights, performances, and volunteer opportunities create an atmosphere where everyone feels like they belong. It’s clear that this school is committed to creating a positive, inclusive, and inspiring place for all students.I cannot recommend Prescott Elementary School highly enough. It’s a place where children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, and as a parent, I couldn’t ask for more.

I am writing this review with a heavy heart after our experience at Prescott Elementary during the 2023-2024 school year. My family and I were initially excited to start our child, at Prescott, but our experience quickly took a negative turn due to a series of troubling incidents. The handling of situations involving our child, an African American child, was particularly disappointing. There was a clear lack of support and understanding from the staff, which culminated in a distressing incident where the school threatened to involve law enforcement against me without cause. This situation, among others, has left us feeling unwelcome and marginalized within the school community. We believe that the actions of the staff were designed to ensure that we would not return for the upcoming school year. This behavior is unacceptable, and no child or family should have to endure such treatment. As a result, we made the difficult decision to withdraw our child from Prescott.I sincerely hope that the school takes these issues seriously and works to address them so that no other family has to go through what we experienced. Until then, I cannot recommend Prescott Elementary to other parents, especially those with children of color.

It’s been such a great experience for my child and our family. Not being in the neighborhood, families and teachers have been welcoming and supportive. We’ve been able to have play dates and meetups with multiple families at the same time. The teachers have also been available to answer questions and provide insight on day-to-day learning activities. I would recommend this school to any caregiver looking to find a great community that values the success and growth of their children.

We love this school! We have been here since both my daughters were in kindergarten (2014 and 2017). The staff is tremendous and have numerous accreditations, including one that the entire community is incredibly proud of - The National Blue Ribbon Award in 2019! One of my daughters has an IEP and Prescott has gone out of their way to accommodate her with every resource possible. She has excelled with this program and she is back in the regular classroom and doing exceptional. There is also a great parent group, Prescott Parents, that does a remarkable job weaving in both parents, teachers and staff that creates a very close-knit community.

Prescott is committed to incorporated SEL into everyday education and realizes that the two are integrated and necessary. The teachers have been responsive, especially with all of the challenges of pandemic. The administration is committed to work with both teachers and parents to advance the school.

We have been delighted with Prescott elementary school. The staff is wonderful and welcoming to new families. I found that the teachers were highly trained, with multiple certifications and awards. In 2019 they were awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award. The school has a great relationship with its LSC and Fundraising Board and they work closely together to meet the needs of the school. The school and staff are always adapting to new ways of implementing better and more progressive educational tools. I found as a parent the school operates on a "one size does not fit all" which has been an eye opener to watch my child learn and enjoy it. I feel this strategy allows kids to be part of their education rather than just being lectured to. The school is also very diverse and has families from all over the city as they are a magnet cluster school. I like that all communication is in both English and Spanish as we have a large Spanish-speaking community at our school.

We love Prescott Elementary because it's an amazing school with a very caring community. The academics are rigorous; there is a strong school culture that prioritizes social and emotional learning and restorative justice; the school's administration, staff and faculty show a strong commitment to racial equity and racial justice; the teachers are so thoughtful, talented and incredible at what they do; teachers coordinate within grades and across grades; and the principal is very committed and visionary.

The Principal is very humble and downplays his impressive accomplishments. If you are experienced with education, you can tell he knows his stuff. You can see that he has been there for years, so it is no wonder that with his dedication to the school that it is a high quality school. The people that lead the parent community are also very welcoming. The teachers really care about students and my child always tells me how he is learning new values such as kindness. It is best to visit the school in person and pay attention, because when I did research on the internet it did not tell the full story the way being an active part of the community did.

I would give one star, but there are a couple teachers willing to respect both diverse and nondiverse learners so I up’d it to 2 stars. For the rest of the teachers, Admin and how students interact…I agree with another person’s rating comments on on this school…-children with diverse needs are not emotionally safe.-by the time they find who the diverse learners are, damage has already been done and can continue for years through the lengthy IEP process. The staff changes and those teachers that don’t work with parents & their child’s specialists are a big issue.HomeworkIt’s difficult to get most teachers to work with capabilities.Does this school have an effective approach to homework? Not for Diverse Learners Overall-Diverse student shaming, punishment and emotional exclusion is a problem.I realize it’s hard to work with something you don’t know about and sometimes can’t see when a child holds it in, hides or doesn’t understand their struggles, but the school won’t work with parents to prevent having to take those harsh actions. They are making way, but it’s a full time job and takes a lot of out of pocket expenses for a parent to get them to try to work with them just a little.

We love this school! Our son has been attending since 2017 and our daughter since 2020. We have had great experiences with the teachers and the administration. The teachers strive to create opportunities for all kids, including those who are advanced for their age and those who may be a bit behind. Learning groups, extra support, classroom assistants, etc. are all super helpful. The school also has a really involved parent group, Prescott Parents, who have been instrumental in working with the teachers and administration to create a welcoming, innovative and empathetic community.

Prescott is a great school in CPS. Everyone from the teachers to the principal has the student's best interest at heart. The community of parents and their involvement have made the school even better. We highly recommend Prescott to anyone looking for a great school that cares about its students and makes you feel like you are a part of a family.

Teachers only deal with their kind if you know what I mean.

Please understand that the culture at this school is one of white privilege. We observed complete refusal to support and follow our child’s IEP. There were no less than 10 families who were experiencing this in the short amount of time our child was there until we saw that no child with diverse needs is emotionally safe . This is NOT a blue ribbon school.

I’m really impressed that the kinder teacher, ast principal - gym teacher -art teacher ALL communicate within 24 hrs or less when I reach out. I was told this isn’t the “norm” for CPS so, I am thankful we are at Prescott. I love the strong reading/writing emphasis/concentration along with a solid socio-emotional understanding and acceptance for my immature male kinder.I love the diversity, etc. we drive far to get here - it is DEF with it.Prescott Proud!

Our children have been at Prescott since Kindergarten and are now in 5th grade. They are happy at school, enjoying positive relationships with all teachers /staff /peers and academically thriving. We love the emphasis on literature and the arts whilst staying strong on math, science and social studies. Nice balance with PE also. We also love the cultural diversity amongst the school community. Parent involvement is a huge strength of Prescott also. Ideas are always welcome here, inclusion in certain classes, celebration of learning events, family reading /math nights and wonderful art exhibitions! We have appreciated feeling in partnership with Prescott for our kid's education. There is always an invitation to be a part of whatever solution is needed, where possible. The bottom line is that the CPS experience is what you make it. Prescott can't possibly meet every student /family need all of the time in the right moment, hence some scathing reviews. Some situations also need boundaries for liability reasons and perhaps a few parents have not aligned with administration which again causes bad reviews on websites like this. Come check out Prescott for yourselves. You will be warmly welcomed, inspired and curious to know more.
