Holden has a divisive principal. Many good teachers have left due to that. Kindergarten teacher resigned midyear because her classroom was unsafe and kids were getting hurt and principal wasn't addressing it. In the middle school there is a drug problem, pregnancy, and some elevated classroom management issues outside of the advanced classrooms. Counselor resigned due to principal. Can you tell I don't care for the principal?Holden has suffered some from increased school choice. Only half of families in the boundary choose to send their kids there now. Families that default to Holden are less likely to be engaged. School gets very low ratings for parent involvement.Holden also has strengths. Art, music, drama, podcasting programs are strong. Its blend of racial diversity is hard to find in CPS. Some very strong teachers and staff who really care about the kids. Some definite success stories. It could work out for your kid especially if they are less vulnerable to the school's weaknesses.

This school has only improved year after year on education wise and in my opinion if you take time to talk to the teacher about the problem u need they will sit down and talk to you about what you need. Bullying wise not every school can stop bullying but it is a thing that shouldn’t be allowed and I’m not gonna lie it’s not there best game but they try there best to find and figure out situation sitting you down one on one together they take talk to both sides one on one and help a lot with what they can. Teacher wise they hire a lot of staff and it’s not like there hiring random people there amazing loyal and very helpful. I think this might be the best teaching staff available going to a school there very loyal helpful kind and try what they can to make you happy. They know what there doing and there good at it. The leadership is kinda there there great with the students and show them kinda what they should do they let them take there own path trying to help the most caring for them at the most important time. The friends you can make at this school is cool most of them are nice. This school is kinda like what’s gonna happen to your child it’s going change Ethel and it’s really only gonna be good. this school is good and I would recommend it.

I have been a teacher, parent, and community member with Holden School. I feel that the quality of education has greatly decreased over the past seven years. Special education students do not receive their required minutes.

Teachers are sincere and dedicated to improve the skill and character of students. I see a significant improvement of my kid in solving math and science problem. My kid becomes respectful and composed in her behavior. Thank you Holden.

Holden is great! The teachers are excellent, funny, and caring for each students' education. The students, although a bit hyped up, help each other in a good and environmental way. I am an 8th grader attending Holden and so far, this grammar school experience for me as been an excelling, fabulous, and marvelous trail for me. Excellent school!

I agree with some of the other comments, though they are old. The past two years have been tough. Most of the teachers are great, though there are a few that lack teaching skill. Also they say they have a zero tolerance for bullies, yet my child was bullied and after almost two months of me visiting, calling and emailing I finally recieved a response. The process was another thing. I feel that Holden is not what it used to be and can be. Very unhappy with the school now. Half of the sports and programs were cancelled.
