I have two boys at St. Jerome, going into 5th and 2nd. This is our second year and I am VERY happy with the school. Academically, I feel they are really being challenged. I am a big fan of the curriculum-they teach the common sense, fundamentals that kids need without all the nonsense public schools are teaching these days. There is very strong parental involvement and tons of activities that the kids get involved with generous jeans to support causes, many field trips, mother-son mayhem, father-daughter dance, all-school picnic and many other unique activities that I haven't seen at other schools.

Our experience at St. Jerome has been fantastic. My children are thriving in schoolwork and sports. They feel safe and loved. St. Jerome is home to its students. We love for St. Jerome family and can't wait to to see all the positive changes coming to our campus.

We have been proud and happy to be a part of the St Jerome family. Our child is excelling in all subjects and the teachers really take the time to make sure the students are grasping the lesson that they are teaching.

There have been major, positive changes to this school in recent years. A new principal was brought in who was formerly a school superintendent, so things are moving in a very positive direction. Leadership is strong & any discipline issues are dealt with swiftly and effectively. They have demolished older parts of their campus and construction is beginning on a new building with a kitchen, gymnasium, 2 new preschool rooms and several additional classrooms for IEP , specials and extracurriculars. The sports program is rapidly expanding and a new Athletic Director was brought in. Homework seems fair to me. My child spends about an hour each evening on it. We have not experienced any issues with bullying. It used to be a lot of families from the surrounding area but in the past few years, the enrollment has expanded to students from the South Loop, Hyde Park, downtown and even close-by suburbs. It's nice to have such a variety of families. Lots of social events for kids and adults too. Makes it really feel like a family, even for those who are not lifers to the area.

I love this school! However, I do agree with another reviewer in that I wish the school would step up to the next level of greatness and offer more in the way or resources. It is ridiculous that this thriving and solvent school/parish does not build a gym, a playground, offer a real library and technology resources. Parents and students are looking for these things and there is no rational reason that St. Jerome isn't offering them.

St. Jerome is a wonderful school on many levels; and certainly holds the children to a high academic standard. Prospective parents should know however that it lacks in providing a well rounded day in that the school has no gym to offer for recess during the cold weather. Often times the children do not have a recess at all, which in a 7 hour highly academic and structured day, is not conducive to learning. Also, the school maintains they have a language program however anyone whose child takes Spanish at St. Jerome will tell you there is no "real" language program. The school is tight knight and offers a rigorous homework and daily academic schedule, if they put some effort in the other areas they will be an A+ school.

My family and I have been a part of St. Jerome for over 40 years. My dad, brothers, niece, nephew, my kids and I have all attended St. Jerome School. It's a low student to teacher ratio which is great. They have extracurricular activities. A drama club was started last year an the play that the students performed was a huge success. Every school has their problems. Some teachers are better than others; some parents are better than others. I highly recommend this school to anyone.
