As a former teacher I really had my expectations high and everything about Agnor Hurt has blown past my expectations. The staff is amazing, the learning atmosphere awesome, & the opportunities for all children are beyond fantastic. I can't stop talking about how impressed I am.

Agnor-Hurt is a fantastic, loving school and I am so glad we chose to send our children here. We were nervous because of the very low rating here, and toured all the private schools in the area before enrolling. But touring Agnor Hurt and talking to neighbors who are so happy there convinced us to give it a try- and I'm so glad we did!! Our twin kindergartners have received a great education in a very loving, non-competitive environment. They have a rich curriculum and give the children plenty of time to move, dance, play, create, and participate in hands on learning. After coming from a private preschool that my kids were never excited about, I have loved watching them flourish here. They have a love of learning that they didn't have last year, and a great deal more self confidence. They proudly wear their Agnor-Hurt t-shirts as often as possible! The school also has an excellent gifted and talented teacher/program, and plenty of opportunity to get involved as a parent. Please don't let the low test scores scare you off - because you'll be missing out on a wonderful experience.

My son previously attended several expensive private schools and this public school is hands down the best experience we have had- both my son and I agree. The Principal, Ms. Casteen, and Vice Principal, Mr. Granger, set the tone for a school that is more authentically dedicated to children and responsive to parents than any I have known. Despite the overcrowding issue at that time (no longer an issue), I witnessed the school providing as close to the optimal level of individual differentiation as possible. I saw children getting the attention they needed in areas of weakness as well as being identified and given the challenges they needed with strong areas of excellence. I saw children in the middle getting the attention they deserved and and loving their experience. I saw African American and other minority children and families treated with dignity and attention to needs. Several of the programs stood out. For examples, the "World Peace Games" were excellent. When the bus pulled away on the last day before summer break, many of the kids were crying. No- I was not asked to write this.

Agnor-Hurt is an incredible elementary school. I love how the principal and all the teachers have embraced a comprehensive "hands-on" learning experience for their students. My daughter is in the 4th grade and is just flourishing at this school. Because of all the interactive teaching methods, we are constantly out of light bulbs, tin foil, and batteries because she has taken them to create lighting for her doll villages! She has a concrete grasp of conduction and electricity that is just so fun to watch. She is also writing her own books after a trip to UVA's literary club. The best part of Agnor-Hurt is the caring and encouraging environment. My daughter is so confident in her ability to learn. Even if she doesn't get something right away, the teachers are always so positive and inspire her to be and do her best. Thank you so much to the leadership, teachers, and staff at Agnor-Hurt who do so much for our children's success!

Our oldest daughter has recently started middle school after attending Agnor-Hurt. We loved her teachers, the community spirit of the school, and the diversity of the student body while she was at Agnor-Hurt, and have been tremendously pleased with the way she was prepared for middle school. In 4th and 5th grade, the school begins moving the students between blocks for math, language arts, science, and history. This made the transition to changing classes in middle school a breeze. Also, my daughter was placed in honors math for middle school and is more than holding her own in this challenging class due to the strong math instruction at Agnor-Hurt. My younger daughter is still at Agnor-Hurt and her experience has been just as wonderful. She was experiencing some concerns/anxiety about beginning school and the principal and teachers have been extremely involved in ensuring that she is excited and ready to learn every day. They were responsive to my inquiries, answering emails almost immediately and following up after the concerns had been resolved to make sure everything was continuing smoothly. We are thrilled with the education of our two girls at Agnor-Hurt.

I had 3 different children attend Agnor-Hurt in each grade level and was impressed with every teacher. Both the principal and vice principal are very active in the school. The PTO has provided the school with new playground equipment. My children looked forward to school everyday and received quality instruction, especially Mr Hunter.

I am starting my 8th year with children at Agnor-Hurt Elementary and have been very happy with their overall academic success. This school comes with a very diverse community of learners and the teachers and administration here work extremely hard to provide a classroom environment where all students succeed. Mrs. Del Gallo and Mr. Granger support and nurture every child's heart and dreams. My kids have loved each and every teacher while here and have established special bonds with many. The leadership constantly seeks to add value to the school so something new and exciting this year will be a strings program offering violin classes to our fifth graders. Last but not least the office staff is superb!
