We love St. Matthew’s! They truly live their mission “to provide an atmosphere of faith and love where Jesus is alive and where students will be able to develop spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially.”The teachers and staff are supportive and caring, and the academics are outstanding. We love all of the special classes…PE twice a week, Music, Art, Library, Computer, Spanish, and LEAP. The Learning Support and counseling teams are a wealth of experience and support. We especially love the weekly school mass and the opportunities for the kids to give back to those in need through service projects. We love that there is a full-time nurse and assistant teachers at every grade level.4th/5th can participate in band and choir. There are after school programs throughout the year, such as Spanish Club, Chess Club, STEM, PE, and Battle of the Books. The PTO and Dad’s Club are very active and there are many opportunities to participate and volunteer. My kids have truly enjoyed their time here and love their teachers. The Principal and Assistant Principal know every student and are caring and supportive.

I volunteered in my child’s classroom and witnessed the teacher on numerous occasions yell at the children, for being children. I’ve witnessed bullying that has been brushed off. Looking into moving my daughter elsewhere. Better off at a different school in MACS.

This school is not what it once was. Some of the teachers are great but if your child ends up getting one of the terrible ones, you and your child will be in for a rough year. Some of the older ones are just waiting for retirement and don’t care about anything else. The quality of their teaching is horrible. Much of the homework contains material that was not covered in class. I spend much of my time teaching my child the lessons, which I don’t mind, however it raises the questions as to what the teachers are actually doing during the day. Are the assignments supposed to be covered and the teacher fails to do so or is the homework just generically picked out without anyone actually seeing if it is relevant to what is being covered in class? I spoke to other parents in the class as well and they all so far have seen this. The other issue with this school is the amount of fluff it puts out on how they don’t tolerate bullying but the fact of the matter is they shut down any use of the word. The bullying does happen a lot here and any attempted discussion about it gets rounded off, sugar coated and they act like it was just a lone “incident” that is a shocking once in a lifetime occurrence at the school. Most of the parents I speak to would also agree with this but just know if your child goes to the school and is being bullied, the teachers, the principal (O’Heron) and the after school aids will not help or assist in anyway. All parties will be very quick to try and pass the problem off to anyone else. O’Heron is very quick to pass the buck to the teacher’s responsibility and the teachers pass it off to O’Heron while nothing ever gets resolved.

I have had 3 different children in this school over a span of 10 years. In the beginning the school was excellent. In recent years it has been awful. Even the principal (same one), has gone from running a tight ship to letting parents run all over him. It has gotten so bad that room mothers are allowed to dictate how the classroom is run, which is unacceptable. Teachers are not of the same caliber anymore either (clear unhappiness with the job, yelling at the children, assigning work that has not been taught in classroom, etc.), although there are 2 or 3 exceptions still employed there. If you do not plan on donating a lot of money to this school, you will be ignored in every way and so will your child. Disgraceful that it has come to this in what is suppose to be a Christian environment. Money would be much better spent moving to Marvin or Weddington school zones (test scores speak for themselves, as well as teacher credentials in comparison).

The School put us through so much stress. the teacher wouldn't agree to cooperate , despite of taking all her suggestions and subjecting my 5 year old through all sorts of evaluation .. Kept my kid in classroom when letting other children play out and this is to a 5 year old kid. wrote complaint notes saying my kid spilled chips in the class wrote complaint nots saying my kid uses more than 1 pump of soap to wash hands.. Only thing is my son sill believes the teacher has best of his interest.

Extremely positive in our 12 years at St. Matthew. This school, and the school community (Holy Trinity and Charlotte Catholic) have become like family. The families, teachers and administrators are all working toward a common goal. Very grateful for this school!

Fantastic TK-5th grade Catholic School! The administration and staff are amazing. All my kids have had an excellent experience while attending St. Matthew’s Catholic School. Not only have my kids had fantastic teachers, the STEM curriculum is awesome. Art, computers, counseling, music, P.E, and Spanish are weekly specials that all grades (except TK) have. Plus, the kids get plenty of playtime outside. I love that my kids attend weekly Mass at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church; even better is being able to attend Mass with them and observe special events put on by the church and school. The friendships my kids have made have been amazing; the school has a fantastic family atmosphere. I could not imagine sending my children anywhere else.

From the first day my older child entered St. Matthew, it has been the perfect fit for our family. We chose the school primarily for Catholic foundation, but it has provided so much more. Our daughters are happy going to school everyday. They are not only becoming well-prepared for middle school, but they are also building a character focused on helping others. We are so pleased to have chosen St. Matthew for our children.

We love St. Matthews, we have been there since 2015, we currently have a 3rd grader and 1st grader and will have another on in TK next year. From the moment we walked into open house we felt at home. Teachers, administration and students have all been wonderful

Fabulous! My child is so happy and loves to go to school. The teachers at the school are dedicated to fostering a love for learning in a faith-filled classroom.

They force you to hire their consultants, exclusively them, for any kind of help needed. Too much pressure for good grade even in 1st grade. The school overall is good, the personnel, is sometimes not as good.

Don't let the teachers and principal of this particular school think that your kid is the problem, because if you do, you are going to take it against your kid. They just don't have the will (they call it resources) to work with a kid that requires more attention. Don't let them give up hope!! There are other schools willing to work with your kid. I put my kid on Carmel Christian and it's been a blessing. My hyper kid is not a problem for them and they work with him through different programs to help him succeed. Understand not all kids learn the same way, some are visual, some are by listening and others by touching. If your kids teacher doesn't know this then don't waste your time and Monet and go find a better school. It's my personal experience.
