We wanted to love this school. We started 6 years ago in the preschool area. Unfortunately, this school is losing many great families as well as staff due to the administration here. The principles integrity, communication skills and leadership skills have been in question from staff/parents since 2012 & hasn’t changed in 2023. This speaks volumes to the way the district conducts itself when parents & staff bring up concerns of those in power. The principle’s school is riddled with kindness and emotional learning from the paint on the walls to the staff. I’m afraid the administration doesn’t mirror the school though. Don’t just take my review. Ask around the area before enrolling your children to JVES. Or ask how many staff members and students left/unenrolled just in 2023. I would also encourage you to speak with a superintendent and ask for more information on where funding is going to better equip their schools. Do they have plans to use funding for better safety equipment or do they believe what they’ve done has sufficed? I hope others are met with a better response. The staff and school are great and we hope in the future more safety measures will be taken and the administration at JVES is updated to a more suitable fit.

Lives here my whole life. I have experience going to schools here, my kids going to schools here, and working in the schools here. I have been part of the community my whole life. If you can enroll in another school I would. This school needs a new counselor. Counselor has many mental issues about her past life and puts it into kids that go there. Likes to brainwash many teachers believing there is something wrong with kids when in all reality it is her. Does have many good teachers. Some of the teachers need better communication skills. There are better schools in this area.-foster parent, special needs aide, worked at day cares and currently working with children for over 24 years.

We love this school. They have an anti-bully program, Family Fall night, Sock hop, and keep the family involved. This school makes you feel welcome the moment you walk through the front doors. JVES has a fantastic principal, wonderful teachers and a terrific staff who all work together for the greater good of the students. It's an open, friendly and safe school. This school is committed to education. It also has fun family nights like Sock Hop, Fall Festival and Bingo. Some other school activities include an Earth Day celebration, a garden, a history walk, running school and a habitat, PE, art, music and computer classes. It has a PTSO that works hard to help support the school in getting things for its students, teachers, and staff. Like new library tables and chairs, books, teacher conferences, busses for field trips, a Rock wall, science fair, assemblies and more. I would highly recommend this school to parents coming to this area. Drop by JVES and see for yourself.

This school doesnt care about the students or their families they want to seperate my 3rd grader attending jves and send my littke kindergarten kids to pinon. One of the directors from the board of education pretty much told me to send my kindergarten kid to pinion or keep him home. Kindergarten isnt mandatory in douglas. This district doesnt care abour the students. Mrs gilmartin held my daughter back in kindergarten 10 yrs ago. Was kindergarten important than and not now. Or does this principle does whatever the hell she wants.

I loved the teachers as human beings, very loving and caring and my children had straight A's BUT when we moved to PHES just a few miles down the road my children had even as low as a D's. It took 1 year to get them back on track with better study habits and better teachers, less cuddly, more academic and now at a different school my kids are in AP classes in middle school. And the principal, she is not supportive of parents or teachers. She has made this school a DIVIDED HOT MESS! The teachers there are saints for putting up with her!

We love this school. They have anti bully program, Family Fall night, Sock hop, and keep the family involved. I have 3 kids going and they florished through their past struggles with these teachers and the principal making sure they are invloved with their set backs and growth. The staff is out going and makes sure they know everyone and even which kids are siblings. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to our kids!

This is an amazing school. I am a parent who is very involved in my childrens education. I have a child with an IEP, and I am completely satisfied on all levels with the professionalism of the teachers and principal. My children came from a charter school, to this public school. Both of my children were behind in their grade levels upon entering JVES. WIth the strong leadership of the principal and the devotion of their teachers they made huge leaps to become on target. Upon receiving their end of the year progress reports, my husband and I both new we placed our children in the right school.
