This school was good for my kids at first but they let bullies get away with everything. So many times we have been dealing with bullying by the same students and they just get told to get along and separate. The bullies kept going and going threatening my kids , making fun of them , even far as to coming to my house trying to jump my kids . Nothing was done no parents called nothing . They even failed to tell me about incidents that had happened while at school . Girls saying they will beat my daughter to death yet my daughter was the one held down by staff . No call about it or nothing . Kids at this school get away with bullying . The staff apparently doesn’t know what type of mental effect that has on a child . My kid has to do counseling now to avoid suicidal thoughts . Same kids that’s been bullies their for years treating other kids like crap and getting a slap on the wrist with no parents called . Suspension or something could have been done but nothing happened. Now i got therapy for my children they got to attend and constantly having to watch out my door to make sure kids don’t destroy my property. Telling these staff members that my kid was bullied was a mistake . Instead they just informed the bully and the bully got worse

Administration does not seem to care about or listen to parental concerns. They appear to have a political agenda. The superintendent believes that she has the right to inform students that she is right & their parents are wrong.

We recently moved to the area and my two children started at Unity Point last month. It has been a total adjustment for them, but in the best possible way. While they are apparently pretty far behind the kids who have been here a while, particularly in math, the teachers are wonderful with communication and are very, very good about holding the students accountable while maintaining a fair and friendly atmosphere. Their progress in a short time in terms of not just school subjects but responsibility and maturity in general is astounding. What a difference! We'll have some catching up to do over the summer, but it will be worth it.

GREAT school. So glad we moved to the best school district around. The principal left to further her education and we'll miss her but they have a great superintendent and acting principal. the ladies in the office are great. the school is organized. the education is fabulous. your children are lucky if they go to this school, it would stand up against any large area school in any state. your kids will be well-prepared for highschool and beyond

I attended Unity Point School K-8, and received a fantastic education. I never felt lost in the shuffle of other students. The teachers were strict, yet fair. The school did well incorporating fun into a learning environment. I have recently graduated college and started a career, and basically all of my achievements, I can attribute to the education from UPS!

we have been at UP for three years and loved the school until this year...a first grade teacher resigned two days before school and theschool board elected to notreplace this teacher even though they had the funding -- this resulted in class room sizes of 30 (yes THIRTY) for each first grade class. The school board then ignored the concerns of both teachers and parents at school board meetings and declined to hire another teacher even though the had the funds stating "our teachers are veterans, they can handle it." Makes me wish I hadn't worked so hard to stay in the school district and with this kind of attitude I expect that my kids will be moving to a new school...a 1:30 ratio for teacher to student is RIDICULOUS.

I am a parent of children who have attended Unity Point for the last 12 years. During that time they have had the best, most compassionate teachers to learn from. These teachers are very dedicated and knowledgeable, putting in long hours to keep up on technology training so that the students could have the use of computers and tablets from grants to help them. Administrators from the last several years have been a source of tension in the school but the historic Unity Point pride has prevailed and the staff continues to offer the large school activities in a small school atmosphere where every child is valued.

I have two kids at Unity Point, that have been there since Pre-K. Due to the constant influx of university families, there is a lot of change in the faces of the kids from year to year, while at the same time, maintaining somewhat of a small-town feel from the local families as well. I do not respect the principal, and the tension between teachers and principal is often palpable, however I absolutely love every teacher my children have had, and their dedication to their students and families. The music program could use a LOT of improving, but the science and history programs are amazing-look at how many people we send every year to the state competition for science and history fairs! I don't like the shortness of the lunch period, as many of the older kids have an extremely short time to swallow their food, but this has also improved in the last couple of years. Don't bother trying to talk to the principal about your concerns, though. Your best bet is someone on the school board. The special education program could certainly benefit from tapping into the university more than they currently do, but if your child is bilingual, average or above average, they will succeed here.
