My son has only been going to Kindergarten for about a month and a half but this school has already helped so much! He speaks more clearly, he's starting to read, his writing is going great, his attitude and respect has improved exponentially. I'm very proud of him and what his teacher and this school have done for him thus far.

For me, the school is definitely below average on the academic side. It seems more like daycare or babysitting facility for Pre-K and KG. There is no clear curriculum or learning outcomes for kids. Limited resources should not be an excuse for not properly teaching our kids. I seriously think to move out of Carbondale because of the low level public schools over there.

My low rating is purely because of the principal. Parrish lacks an effective and positive relationship between the principal, staff and parents. It is also in a state of flux w/ many new teachers. The new teachers that I know have great interpersonal skills w/the children and, I believe, are effective teachers. Unfortunately, all teachers at Parrish are restricted by low resources, low funding and lack of general support in the classroom. Having said that, both of my son's receive(d) 'extra' work from their teachers when they exceeded the average classmates abilities (w/ the exception of one teacher who could care less if a student was bored). Bullying is an issue here but somewhat controlled. Unfortunately, it only gets worse at Thomas.

This school has great resources, excellent RTI & special ed services, cultural diversity, and a rare gem -- the Two Way Immersion Program for bilingual education.
