I’m giving a four at this point since we are only one semester into our son’s freshman year, during COVID none the less. So far we are impressed in the following areas:Leadership:The Principal, Lyn Bair and the Vice Principal, Zoe Stern, have been incredibly approachable, share strong experience, seem well respected by their staff and open to ideas. They have recruited qualified teachers, counselors & staff. Teachers:We have been delighted with the educators our son has been fortunate to experience, even given the shifting between in person & remote learning. Report card comments clearly indicated they knew our son including strengths & areas of challenge that they will work on together. They have responded within 24 hours anytime I have reached out. Culture:Like any school experience the friendships really matter. We are fortunate our son has kind, driven & responsible friends. I know many of his classmates & I find them respectful and kind. Part of the reason we chose this traditional high school is because of the cultural/racial/economic mix which is reflective of the community. The type of diverse environment he is unlikely to have in college. Another strength which doesn’t necessarily show up in the Great School scores is the number of students who have received full scholarships to colleges and universities both in-state and across the nation. One recent year there were 6 students in a class of 100. A remarkable percentage for any school. Extra-curricular:As a small school of approximately 400 students, The options can be limiting depending on interest. However, because of it’s size & teacher commitment, other parents have indicated students have had the opportunity to take the lead to create new clubs with teacher guidance. Any sports not offered at the school can be enjoyed at other schools in the district. Overall we feel welcomed as a family and see a deep commitment to the students. We are looking forward to the 3.5 more years. The ratings below are based on our short experience and some areas we have yet to know enough to adequately rate.

RFHS has great teacheers who understand & care about kids. The office staff is friendly & helpful and the administration is working hard to make the school as great as possible. Parent input is encouraged. The school is small and inclusive. Dual credit classes are offered through CMC and CU as well as AP classes. The art & woods programs are fantastic and some really interesting courses are offered. The sports programs are well coached (girls vball, boys soccer & boys & girls basketball went to state this year) and supported by the community. A lot of scholarship money is awarded to RFHS graduates every year and RFHS graduates do get into top schools, like Middlebury & George Washington U as well as CU, CSU, DU & Regis.

RFHS has a wonderful sense of community where students feel safe and supported. The kids genuinely care about one another. The diverse student body allows kids to learn about other cultures, economic backgrounds, languages, etc in a respectful and meaningful way. The teachers are warm and caring with enthusiasm for their subject matter. The size of the school allows kids of all abilities to get involved in a number of extra-curricular activities. Both kids and families feel welcome at the school and the size of the school allows people to really know one another. The quality of the curriculum is improving every year with more variety in course offerings and a full range of college level and AP classes. I feel grateful to have two children who have had the opportunity to experience RFHS and recommend it highly to others. The school provides a great foundation for whatever comes next.
