Some teachers are great. But some aren’t. The principal would rather send kids home who struggle in class instead of actually helping them through the struggle. Kids who struggle get left behind because there is rarely any support for them here. Then they pass them anyway. Accommodations aren’t followed or suggested.

North Canton Elementary has some of the most dedicated, hard working and compassionate teachers in Haywood County. I have had 3 children receive a great education at this school. The teachers spend many hours outside the normal school day planning and preparing to do their best. Just go by the parking lot at 6 am or at 6pm and you will see teachers' cars parked, putting in extra time. The staff vilunteers to offers extra programs to enrich student's education, health and responsibility through programs such as Battle of the Books, girls fitness club, Safety Patrol, chorus etc. Mr. Barbee has worked hard to build morale and improve discipline, teacher standards and increase teacher/parent and student expectations. He has also makes sure that the school, though one of the oldest in the county, remains well kept. Ask any SUPPORTIVE parent and they will tell you that teachers and staff go above and beyond to provide the best education possible for all students. The PTO is ine if the best as well, providing staff support and fundraising to help provide more technology.

Mr. Barbee has been there for almost 2 years now. His goal is to "whip teachers into shape" The school has a low morale and most complaints are ignored by the administration. My son has been bullied repeatedly by the same boy since kindergarten. Only after several reports and witnesses seeing the bully hitting my child on the bus was the principal made aware. What he told us then was boys will be boys. Even though my son did nothing wrong and got in trouble for changing seats on the bus to get away from the bully. His current teacher has sent home the wrong report card. Which has not been fixed. Most of the teachers there are nice and pleasant. But they don't follow updated teacher standards. They do have a 6 rating for a reason. The only thing saving this school is the parent involvement from the community.
