We have three children in the district and have been very pleased with the teachers thusfar. There are a few less than stellar teachers but the majority truly care about their students and go out of their way to teach good character values. I love that the lines of communication are always open and the superintendent and principals keep parents updated regularly including during the pandemic. They also offer enrichment programs for students who need more of a challenge which is a great bonus. Would highly recommend the school!

The Canandaigua Elementary School is terrific. We have a second grader and kindergartener enrolled there. They both love school, and our second grader compares it favorably to his previous school in a super affluent Boston suburb. We have found the level of instruction to be high and the teachers to be competent and professional. Our very bright son is in the gifted program for math and ELA - a program that few other schools have. We appreciate the dedicated attention the school gives to character education and citizenship. The superintendent of the district (just hired last year) writes impressive letters to the parents and seems to really know what he is about and how he wants to lead. Our family moved to Canandaigua from a ritzy Boston area suburb seeking an affordable place with great public schools to buy a home and raise our kids. We found it here, and I would highly recommend the elementary school - as well as the city itself. Canandaigua has real economic diversity and this is reflected in the school scores and metrics, which obviously penalize schools for having kids from poor families with lower levels of education and social capital. But we think that overall the school does an excellent job with its mission and we have no real complaints. The facilities are in good shape (built in the 1940s and 1950s, just before the shoddy 1960s public architecture came into fashion) and the school is in a beautiful setting and convenient location. There are other schools in nearby towns with higher test scores and fewer kids from poor families, but this school has everything we want and has exceeded our expectations.
