Elm school is an excellent school. The teachers and staff are knowledgeable, caring, and kind, committed to excellence and compassion. The student body is diverse and the families are down-to-earth. The PTO is fun and easy to be involved with. I have three children, all of whom started there as Kindergarteners, one of whom has graduated, one about to graduate this school year, and one in the middle; and I've never had a bad teacher or bad experience.

The district has been experiencing turmoil for years. It is seems to be reflected in the teachers' ability to teach and the curriculum the teachers claim they are forced to use. For example, at curriculum night (a few weeks ago), parents were told that because of the math curriculum the district had been using for several years, the students did not learn their math facts. 3rd, 4th and 5th graders would be going back and learning 1st grade math facts. Didn't teachers know this? Also, complaints to administrators that parents made about bullying, lack of academic progress of their children and other important issues seemed to have been swept under the rug despite the fact that parents were assured of follow through. Some parents felt that their gifted and special education children were neglected while the district hung it's hat on inclusion but didn't seem to differentiate in the classrooms.
