What a disappointment this school turned out to be. The ratings for this school have dropped significantly since the new administration took over. If you deal with them you'd understand. They treat parents and children horribly. If I could go back I would NOT send my daughter here. I would go to Luther or a private school. Avoid this "school" at all costs. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AVOID!!!

This is an amazing middle school. My daughter thrived here and participated in multiple programs including the cooking competitions and performed with the winning show choir team. The new principal is from Roosevelt and actually came to my home to teach my daughter how to sew a quilt every Monday for a month. There is a true sense of community at this school and my child was well prepared for high school as a result.

Had a great experience with our daughter here. Great teachers and outstanding music program.

Bad school. Had the worst years of my life here. While some are good, most teachers are bleh or flat out bad and assign useless work. Bullying happens constantly, along with vaping in the bathroom and fights at lunch. The fire alarm got pulled a lot for no reason, just because kids thought they were funny. Kids MIGHT get suspended for one day, and that doesn't even always happen. Kids that fail classes and vape are the ones that rule the school. Very limited extra-curricular activities, which are basketball (that lasts for about a month and a half) and cheer (yearlong). Please find another school to send your child to.

My son, a gifted student has excelled greatly at Jordan Middle School. Dr. Meg is a wonderful Principal as she possesses great leadership skills and is a genuinely caring person. If I had to pick one thing to nit pick, it would be that the gifted students are looked over for the school awards at Jordan’s award ceremonies.

Jordan MS is a breath of fresh air compared to our experience at a different middle school in a neighboring district. The students are a lot kinder, the admin and counselors work well together to support students who are different, and teachers are very responsive to parent questions and concerns. We love Jordan MS!

This is my second child that has been at Jordon and we are in our final year of a total of six years spent at this school. I have been an involved parent in my children's education: from working with the teachers and staff, helping with homework and also working as a volunteer and on the PTA Board. This is a amazing school with an extremely dedicated staff. They are exceptional educators as well as committed leaders. Guided by a principal that definitely “walks the walk” and is extremely involved and engaged. She attends every event and performance and spends hours speaking and working with the students. My children are lucky, they both enjoy learning and do well without a lot of extra guidance required. However, I have seen how these students and staff work with and support more challenged learners – first hand, and witnessed a culture of understanding and guidance with each students personal developmental issues. The staff work tirelessly with the exceptional programs of inclusion and acceptance ( from diversity clubs, to robotic, to journalism and especially an incredible, world class music program). It takes a “village” of parents and teachers to make these programs work and most of it all is done on their own FREE TIME. They don’t ask for anything! It is their lunch time and after school time where most of this happens. There is a strong booster support as well as a dedicated PTA that helps cover some of the costs to enrich the experience. I don’t agree with a lot of the comments made by a few unhappy parents. Obviously, there is something else happening. Jordon Middle School is not racist, nor do they support bullying. It is hurtful. Knowing the principal, one of her greatest assets is her honesty with her students, parents and staff. When there is a mistake or problem, she does not dance around it: she confronts it head on and searches for solutions. No school is perfect. No kids are perfect. Heck, it is middle school… But, as a parent leaving Jordon and speaking to parents coming into the Jordon. I could not make a higher recommendation. My kids are leaving Jordon with incredible intellect and problem solving skills, a great friend base, of really nice kids and a huge dose of self-esteem. I am grateful that they have been so well prepared of High School.

My son has attended this school since 6th grade. He is now in 8th. He has been badly bullied every year. This year he was assaulted by another boy in the middle of class. The boy put a rope around his neck. The next day, this same boy brought a knife to school and told my son not to mess with him. We've been through a great deal with this, but I thought all of you concerned parents should know the truth. This boy was NOT expelled. He is at another Burbank Middle school for the rest of the year, and will apparently be back at Jordan next year. You should know that your children's safety is NOT their biggest concern, and they will do much to sweep it all under the rug. BUSD is NOT as great as people think!!

My daughter has ADHD and this school has done everything to get my daughter on track. In six grade she was in some basic classes but now she has done so well that she is in all regular classes and doing great. They offer after school tutoring and communication with the teachers have been great too. Had no problems and very happy with this school.

David Starr Jordan Middle School is a wonderful school with a positive environment for tween's. The class are great because the teachers care. I want this school to win because it is well deserving and in need of school supplies in order to make it an awesome school.

Disappointing API! As the mother of an incoming 6th grader whose elementary school regularly scored an 8, 6 is lower than I would like. And an even worse 5 for boys!

This school is absolutely fabulous. They stay in touch with parents, offer wonderful classes and even better teachers. The administrative staff is the best I have seen. They welcome the kids in the AM in front of the school and are around during breaks and lunch. Most importantly the kids can see Mrs Cashman anytime they need her. She is very accessible. Can't say enough good things about this school.
