I can tell you from someone who works here that the principal does not have the interests of students at heart. It's all about the money. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of other choices for districts to send to special-ed schools.

Students and staff NOT SAFE ! Allowing staff to come in sick ! Last week staff that came in sick all week was positive with Covid ! Confirmed with school testing site done weekly … many staff members don’t wear masks , HR doesn’t do proper contact tracing , also staff positive for Covid fails to notify HR All people in contact with .. understaffed , staff encouraged to come in Sick regardless of Covid ! More positive cases and they don’t continue to email us all about the cases as well ! They lie to staff and parents! Along with other forms of abuse that have happened here 3 years ago and parents were never notified , cps never notified due to them wanting no media coverage on them or parents to sue ! What is going on here ? Admin needs to be held accountable along with staff that makes decision to come in sick and expose everyone !

Very awful school. My child was better when he or she went in there than when he or she came out. ALl they keen was to please the school district rather then please a parent.

It's not as bad as many non-public schools. They don't beat up, restrain, or seclude the kids. but they are dedicated to pleasing the placing districts at the kid's expense. We just held an IEP meeting there and the teacher said how great he was reading, and he's 3 years behind, and their goal is for him to make 6 months progress in the next year, falling behind some more. "Oh, he's doing great for his cognitive level." "Is he qualified as intellectually disabled" "I don't know." "Have you read the IEP?" "Yes." "It's on the first or second page." At which point the district PS pipes up to say no, he's autie. What they know from their own assessments is that he has severe auditory and visual processing problems, which they refuse to assess because the district wants to write him off and not address those.Dawn O'Connor, the principal, is happy to blight this kid's future because that's what El Rancho Unified School District wants. It's not the kids that count. It's the administrative convenience of the district and SLDC. And there is considerable malice here. They're on their way to a due process hearing next month, and all they have to do is recommend the assessments which they know from their own paperwork the kid needs, and the problem goes away, because the settlement agreement with the district requires the district to do what SLDC staff recommends. But pleasing the district at the kid's expense is a principle that SLDC will not compromise. You can certainly do worse. They won't abuse your child. But if the district doesn't want to help him, the kid goes under the bus, and if you're not well educated in his needs, you may not even realize how they're ruining his life. I hope to post the link to the IEP meeting here in time, once the parent gets past a technical problem uploading it.
