Dr. Vlantis does not effectively deal with bullying in the school. OORS reports are not generated as they are supposed to be. When I insisted on one for an issue, the "investigation" was conducted with "witnesses" in the same room as the bully as they were writing statements. Any person with common sense can tell you that that is the most ineffective way to conduct an investigation. But, it served the school because then on paper, there was no bullying. No justice at all for the student who is bullied. Students who complain are made to feel like they are lying and over exaggerating.

I had two children at this school at one point, it was a lovely school until both principal and assistant principal retired within six months of each other. Enter Dr. Theresa Vlantis, who completely stripped the school of the warm and loving culture my children have grown to know and love. The teachers are wonderful, I cannot say enough positive things about them. They truly care about the students and encourage them to do their very best. However, their hands are tied behind their backs when it comes to discipline. Bullying is rampant. My child was subjected to physical abuse on 4 separate occasions. Rather than showing concern, my child was made out to be a liar and the aggressive children were free to run the asylum. To even suggest an OORS was like pulling teeth because they like to sweep everything under the rug. Over the course of 9 months my happy go lucky child went from loving school, to fearing it. We lost all trust in the administration and ended up withdrawing our child from the school. I am happy to say they are loving their new school. I wish I did it sooner rather than holding out hope that something would be done to protect my child. PS 277 was once an amazing school, Dr. Vlantis and Ms. Shanstra do not have a clue as to how to run it effectively, and unfortunately its taken a turn for the worse.

This school is a great school. The teachers care and so does the staff. I only wish that the school went up to the 8th grade. There should be a second level added to this school. I am sure this can be done if only the funding was there. It would be so much better to go from here directly to High school. If there is a way that this can be done I would like to be involved.

My school is excellent. My two grand daughter's just moved here from South Carolina. In the three weeks since they started they have learned more than they did all last year in their old school. They have art and music and dance and gym. It is a very well rounded program. Great school

My two children recently attended this school and I couldnt be any happier. Compared to some other schools in the area, this school was amazing. They take pride in their students. The community involvment is awesome as well. the new PTA group is great.

hi! i am a student in the school. one good thing about the school is that they have wonderful trips and they help a lot or train students very good to pass the ELA and the Math state test. but one thing i don't really like is that the principle is very strict they yell at students for little things.

The school is fabulous in every way. As a faculty member, I see the staff and parents work together to make sure that each child receives the optimum education possible and nothing less. I am proud to work there.
