This school has child predators in their staff (which they received proof of) and refuse to address it. I believe this needs to be known so parents are careful with their children.

Dewey is a great school. It has a really good STEM Academy program. The teachers there are all very respectful and they all love to teach. I had always hated studying before high school and the teachers make me realize how important and fun studying is. They don't try to overwhelm you with work and they want you to have fun while learning.

My experience at John Dewey High School is excellent. Currently, I am in the STEM Academy program, and my track is computer science. I will be taking four advanced placement courses next year. This school gives many facilities and opportunities to advance and have success. The teachers here at Dewey are very encouraging and provide help whenever needed. There are many clubs, teams, AP classes, after-school support, and enormous diversity of students and teachers. This school offers many tracks and programs—for instance, STEM, Pre-Med, Business, etc.

There are so many opportunities and connections that you can get in this school. There are so many clubs, and if you're ever in doubt, you can always create your club by having your friends or people come with you. There are always people (both staff and students) willing to help you when in need. Everyone is super supportive and makes the school seem like a big, cozy community. This school is very motivating and provides many mental health resources to all students. The school pays attention to its students, which is excellent in such a rigorous environment.

My experience at John Dewey High School was great. First, I liked how every student, including myself, was able to choose their own schedule for all of the four years. The time when we had to choose our own schedule every cycle was the best time for me. It was the best time for me because I was able to choose different classes that I would be able to learn something new. The classes would be coding, business, or dance. It was really fun at this high school for me. The best thing about this school is that whenever there was a time I didn't understand something our teachers would be really helpful to us because they would help you if you didn't understand something. Even if after they explained it you still didn't understand this school has tutors who are really helpful and can help you in any subject.

The teachers in John Dewey are very informative and help any student who needs it. The classes are engaging because they try to apply the concepts to real-world situations. The grading systems that the teachers use are fair, and anyone can do well if they try. Some teachers were strict in grading, but those were the same teachers that prepared you the best for the regents and AP tests.

John Dewey High School is a great school where you can do fun activities. They offer various options from which you can choose, such as yoga, weight training, tennis, and many more. That is also just the gym courses. There are art courses, music courses, science courses, and many more that, as a student, help you learn more and more. This high school is a diverse high school, so no one is ever left out or is feeling left out. The students are friendly and will help you if you need help.

Dewey is a great high school! The teachers really care about students’ success and happiness, and are always there to help. We’re kept very updated at this school, and I’ve never felt lost. This has been especially helpful lately as I am getting ready to apply to colleges! Something very apparent walking through the halls is Dewey’s pride. The students are constantly coding, dancing, drawing, etc. We’re offered a huge variety of AP Courses along with really unique electives (Computer Science, Robotics, Business Management, Culinary Arts, Pre-Med, Law, Dance, Studio Art, Theatre, etc.) Dewey is great for experiencing different classes, cultures and making friends.

If I could give this school 100 stars, I would. I have to first say the principal, teachers and staff are incredible and very professional. My child had a bad experience at another public school so I transferred him to John Dewey and crossed my fingers. Well, my kid loves this school so much that he was upset when school ended in June. His grades even went up. He actually signed up this summer to help the incoming freshman. He adores the teachers, staff and students. The school is like an extended family. They really do care for their students and the teachers even call the house to remind the parents of upcoming exams. The atmosphere there is just phenomenal. I've met all the kids there and they are wonderful and my kids have become friends with so many of them. I write with such enthusiasm because both of my kids attended catholic school and are blessed and fortunate to be students at John Dewey which is both safe and cares for its students.

Dewey is a diamond in the rough. When I say that, it's because it has long been surrounded by failing schools--yet Dewey perseveres. Dewey's unconventional methods of instruction and liberal progressive education pedagogy has excelled for decades, accepting students from across the city and the community, and while the philosophy has been recalibrated to serve a different population in recent years, Dewey still sends its top students to Ivy League colleges and prepares them for not only college, but for life. The diversity is also fascinating. I've seen students from Tibet and Mongolia here; few schools get to say they have such students. Overall, this school is a great one. It could improve through grants and a larger budget, I believe. This is not the school's fault, however. Public education needs to be supported more.

As a student and writer for Dewey's school newspaper, I realize that Dewey prepares its students for college well by providing free out-of-state college trips to students of all grades, offering more AP classes than your typical NYC public high school, and by providing an interesting mix of classes and electives: from sociology and culinary arts to ceramics and robotics. Dewey also helps its incoming freshmen through a one-week long Summer Bridge program. One fourth of the incoming class (Class of 2017) attended Dewey's Summer Bridge program. The incoming students visited colleges, received a tour of the building, built social, academic, and team skills, and participated in various workshops. This program helps ease the transition from middle school to high school. I'm very happy to be at John Dewey, as it has prepared me both intellectually and emotionally. The teachers here also are very dedicated, and come from different corners of the world. However, as stated previously, the school could improve by expanding its music and theater departments.

Dewey is a wonderful school. It has the best teachers and very helpful staff. Dewey is one of the nicest place one can think of going to. Dewey is not just a school , Dewey is like a family, or just like a big community to me. I like my teacher the most. Also all the students are very friendly and helpful. I think by adding some electives program like music, dances, more arts calss which Dewey had some years ago, but dosent have it now because of of the budget cut will help Dewey to improve a lot. I love Dewey. Its a very welcoming and friendly place.

John Dewey High School was (probably still is) an excellent High School! My wonderful teachers encouraged me not only to learn but to explore, experiment, perform, challenge and best of all to think creatively outside of the box. If I had to choose a high school all over again, I would choose Dewey again. I majored in Dance, Nursing and Psychology and thoroughly enjoyed each experience. My high school program experiences at Dewey far exceeded my college experiences. In fact it would be great if there was a John Dewey College with a similar program format. Thanks "Dewey"!! So proud I was a "'Deweyite" Class of '78
