Review for John J. Pershing 220:Unfortunately, my experience at John J. Pershing 220 has been far from positive. One major issue that stands out is the front door lady. From the very first interaction, she was incredibly rude and unhelpful. Instead of offering a warm welcome or assistance, her dismissive attitude made me feel unwelcome every time I entered the school. It's hard to understand why someone with such a poor attitude is in charge of the front desk, as it creates a bad first impression for anyone coming through the door.On a more positive note, the basketball coach is outstanding. He’s genuinely committed to his players’ success both on and off the court. His passion for coaching is evident, and he creates an environment where students feel motivated and supported. The coach is truly one of the few highlights of my time at this school. However, the lack of care from many of the teaching staff is a serious issue. Several teachers seem disinterested in their jobs, and it’s clear they aren’t putting in the effort needed to engage with students. The lack of passion from some educators makes it harder for students to connect with the material and find inspiration in their studies.Additionally, there seems to be a prevailing bias in certain areas of the school. Whether in the classroom or during extracurricular activities, it's noticeable that some students receive preferential treatment, which creates an uncomfortable and unfair atmosphere for others. In conclusion, while the basketball coach is a bright spot at John J. Pershing 220, the front door lady’s behavior and the lack of dedication from several teachers really drag down the overall experience. It’s disappointing that a school with potential is being held back by these issues.

It needs to be known that this school is not safe for your children. The rating it receives does not match the low quality of the school. Only children in the honors classes are really provided with helpful teachers. Other students fall behind without much guidance from the school. Teachers do their job but lack professionalism. The environment is not safe either, with many students themselves often causing harm and mischief to others without proper intervention or repercussions by school staff.

Has decent teachers but some can be way too serious and strict. Not to mention boring in most cases.Has counselors and offers a meeting per week during a non main subject class and phone calls often happen during classes. The hallways/stairs are cramped and smell everyday with a new variety everyday.Long stair cases and no elevators at all for teachers or even students who have classes on the 5th floor. Most students skip class or wander around then go to class. Most air conditioning rooms are no different from the ones that don’t have air conditioning. The food is usually served cool. And everywhere is really dirty especially the bathroom with brown water at some point..The students are really disrespectful and it’s obvious for teachers to look mentally or physically tired.Trust me,there’s better middle schools out there than this one.Asap transfer if you can.

This school isn’t even good, many students were racist, sexist, and there were so many bullies there, I went to that school since 7th grade in 2017-2018 and I got bullied there. Although I did tell on the teachers, it was still no use of it and had to overcame a huge significant problem through this. I’m glad I’m out and moved to a new school. The environment in this school is also very unclean and the teachers are rude asf. It’s also funny how they got a dentist office on the 4th floor in school when this is clearly a school.

Hi, I am from this school and I really need people to know about this school. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this school, people think this school is bad but once you experience it you'd notice that what other people said is wrong!! Seriously people shouldn't rub down on us just because we are in Pershing 'cause you'll never know if some student is just as smart as someone who goes to McAuliffe. School shouldn't be judged harshly, we are all learning the same thing from the same curriculum of NYC. STOP JUDGING US it's not okay.

Teachers show favoritism. Not all of them though, out of the entire staff, I think only 3 teachers have their head in place. I'm graduating this year and I'm happy to be out of here because of the awful staff and students. The students are just plain obnoxious, and don't take anything seriously, their main focus is "who can get the most people to like them?". The teachers (excluding the 3), are also obnoxious and doesn't listen to what the students have to say. They just give you assignments to do and assume that it's best for you, not to mention that some of them are just plain lazy. I can't say I found any good friends in here either, they all disappointed me at some point. What utter rubbish!

I graduated PERSHING on January 1945. Had a great time in the school with teachers like Ms. Spear who later on became Mrs. Biedenkapp, Mr. Goldstein, Mr. Copeland, Mr Eisenberg and last but not least Mr. Unterberg who lived on 9th Avenue between 42nd & 41st Street. I also played on the schools basketball Team and at that time there was agreat player by the name of Moe Goldman. A wonderful time was had at this school and graduated in January 1948 in Class 9B8.
