I do not recommend working at this school as a teacher or any other professional. Discipline problems are swept to a corner and go no further than the administration’s desk. You will not be allowed to voice your own professional opinion on any matter. Only a few do the work of so many. There is a reason they offer incentives to stay or apply for a position. That’s always a red flag at a school. The current administration operates with gaslighting techniques and not a fair exchange of ideas. Students who have more intellectual pursuits are completely overlooked in favor of those in sports. The special ed students are given regular ed teachers on paper only. Teachers are forced to attend IEP meetings for special ed students they never even met, and forced to sign documents regarding these students. Another red flag? Hahnville High is a classic toxic work environment.

I graduated from HHS in 1999. I had a good experience there. A lot of reviews mention that honors students and athletes are given priority. I cannot refute that claim; I took all honors and AP classes and played for the girls' soccer team. The classes were challenging and stimulating. The music program, specifically concert and marching band, was amazing. They also had a great athletic program when I attended. There was never a bullying problem to my knowledge. However, the school was very segregated in terms of honors students and general students. They only mixed in extra curricular classes and sports.HHS made me a well rounded student with strong academics, sports, and arts. My hope is that the school has maintained that level of education or improved.

My daughter is a freshman at Hahnville High school and has been excited about attending school there since the beginning of 8th grade. The experience thus far has been extremely disappointing. So far, she has been bullied (with promises from the school administration that they would do all they can to protect her, well that didn't happen) and then one day later, the same child followed my daughter around during lunch harassing her. At that point, I decided to meet with the family myself. Secondly, she misses the honor roll with a "C" in P.E. The course is a bit tough and I understand trying to challenge and engage the students, but to deduct points from them each day for not finishing a 2 mile run in a specific amount of time ( I believe 5 minutes) for a student who is not athletic, is far fetched. There are others issues as well, however, I'm getting weary as I type. As mentioned in previous views, if you are not connected by sports, family ties or knowing someone on the inside there, best of luck to you! I am truly disappointed the experience my daughter is going through as these should be some of the best years of her life.

Hahnville High School is one of the worst schools ever. They have a major bullying issue and truly do nothing about it. My husband and I have gone up to the school several times due to our daughter being bullied. The school has done nothing and its simply due those females student who are doing the bullying clearly have a self-esteem issue because all they do is degrade other female students who do well in there classes or do not engage in inappropriate behavior as they do. Its to the point where we have to seriously consider having our daughter back in private school.

To the person who posted on January 5, 2013, you took the words right out of my mouth. I graduated from Hahnville High in 1981, and said good riddance a long time ago. I would like to go back in time just so I could go back to high school somewhere else. In 1978 at the start of my tenth grade I moved to Luling, LA, and was so apalled at the area for being so rural. I was so used to suburban and urban areas, and this did not feel like home to me. My years at Hahnville were a three-year prison sentence. Unless you originate from the area, you are in for a big disappointment!

I was a new student at Hahnville and I must say the administration is not very friendly. I have attented over 5 schools since a child, and Hahnville was the only one where the administration do not interact with the students. I remember it was until the second quarter that I actually found out who was the principal. Unless you play a sport or are in a club you won't be welcomed to the school. Also, many teachers only focus on what will be on the tests and exams. Overall, Hahnville is not a great high school to send your child. Rarely will they ever feel welcome because the students who attend this school have known each other since a young age and new people are excluded.

I loved it. The teachers, most of them at least, are willing to do anything and everything they can to help you succeed. They do need to work on getting more updated with technology and whatnot, but I think it's a great school and I learned a lot.

Let me say that this parish is filled with nepotism: the entire westbank population of SCP goes to this high school and the school system is the largest employer in this parish. Most people who live out here have gone to HHS and have been here forever. As long as your child is high functioning and motivated he/she should do reasonably well. If your child has ADHD/ADD/Anxieties/OCD,etc. that is controlled well with medication he/she could do reasonably well. If not, don't come. There is only one computer per class, you do the math. No laptops or PDAs are allowed. All of the comments I have read on this site are on target and I agree with them. Read them. In my opinion, this school does not prepare kids for life or college because it is too punitive and is more focused on control of the children and families rather than providing an environment of positive encouragement to all students. HHS teaches to the test. Period. This year (2011) only 69 out of 300+ graduates received academic endorsements for which you need a 2.5GPA, a 23 or higher ACT score and senior project (which is mandatory in SCP to graduate). The average ACT score for this school is 20.
