We absolutely love our small, neighborhood school and have built such an amazing parent/kid community. Flatirons has a great balance of seasoned teachers and new talent - principal, music, art and media specialist/library. Flatirons does a great job leveraging the parent and broader community to build partnerships to strengthen education opportunities outside the classroom. We have greatly benefited from literacy support and are excited to see more and more STEM opportunities being integrated at Flatirons. Our kids have loved after school chess, the running club, cross country skiing, numerous field trips, hockey and band events with the Avalanche, etc. In summary, our kids feel safe, supported, academically challenged and most importantly they are happy to go to school each day. It is a very inclusive and welcoming place. Big thank you to Flatirons for providing such a strong foundation for our kids!

We are new to Boulder, having moved from California months before our oldest child started Kindergarten in the fall of 2022. We are so incredibly grateful to have found Flatirons Elementary School through the Open Enrollment process! Our kiddo is thriving, and mom and dad have made many wonderful connections through the school community.Flatirons is a small school, with talented and dedicated teachers and an engaged and welcoming parent community. It is is exactly the kind of well-rounded school we were seeking for our family. There is a strong focus on academics, which is reflected in student performance. Importantly (to us!), there is an equally strong focus on student well-being. The small size means that faculty and staff get to know all of the students, and as a result kids are supported, feel safe, seen, and loved, and thus are able to thrive. Now in first grade, our child loves learning and loves going to school - which is a home run in our book.

This small neighbourhood school is a very special place, the school recently underwent refurbishment including air conditioning and has a wonderful library, open creativity space, large gym hall, separate canteen area, onsite before and after school club and STEM lab (one of only 4 schools to have this in BVSD). The classrooms have high ceilings, lots of windows and overall a really nice vibe. Most of the teachers have worked in the school for more than 10years which is testimony to the Principal which the kids affectionally call ‘ Mr B’. If you are looking for a community and place for your child to thrive, with a great playground, and space to play outside on grass, please put this on your visit list.

Flatirons is a top notch elementary school which radiates warmth, welcoming, and a student focused atmosphere from the moment one walks through the door. The principal, "Mr. B" as the students call him, has been at the school for 18 years and knows each teacher and student well. He is at all times kind and has a wonderful sense of humor - the students and staff truly enjoy and feel supported by him. We have three children at Flatirons and have experienced nearly all of the teachers at school, and each has been exceptional. I can say without reservation that each of my children feels seen and supported at school. Flatirons has an active parent teacher organization and a community of parents that is both close knit and supportive - it is a small school in a wonderful way. Flatirons has a dedicated school counselor who provides social emotional education as well as as needed support, and Flatirons was the first school to earn dedication as a No Place for Hate School. Flatirons has excellent specials programs which include art, music, and PE - a program which has earned grant support to teach all students cross country skiing in the winter! The school has its own gardens which the children use for insect study and the planting and harvesting of vegetables. In addition, the school has intensive learning supports with a gifted and talented program as well as a dedicated literacy program and support of speech therapy and OT. This school is an absolute gem and I am grateful for the foundation it is giving each of my children.

We are so grateful that we found Flatirons and successfully open enrolled there. The parent community is welcoming and supportive. The staff and teachers are exceptional. We love that the school is small enough for the teachers and staff to know all of the students. The size of the school made KG and 1st grade feel manageable (even during the pandemic). I highly recommend this school!

Our second grader attends Flatirons and absolutely loves it! Although our son struggled to keep up socially in pre-school, he has thrived at Flatirons! The teachers and staff create a supportive and caring environment for all of the kids, who come from many different areas of Boulder. Our son loves the diverse opportunities for learning with his teacher and in small groups with paraprofessionals. Flatirons also offers all of the "specials" like art, music, physical education, and STEM education that many schools and districts are cutting because of funding issues. This small school is the quintessential neighborhood school where classes are small and the kids all know each other. We are so happy with Flatirons!

We have been so happy with Flatirons. My son loves going to school. He is excited to learn new things. His teachers are engaged and enthusiastic about teaching. The school feels small and welcoming and parents are supportive without being competitive.

We are new refugees from California. We moved here primarily for a lower stress life with great schools and we have not been disappointed. Flatirons feels like many private schools we toured in the past: intimate, personal, parents that care, and teachers that love their job. Our son has been excited to attend Flatirons since Day 1 and the transition couldn't have been any easier. We feel lucky to have landed in such an awesome school.

We came to Flatirons after feeling unhappy at another BVSD school. It was the right descion! This is our 6th year at Flatirons and we still love it. It's a small, warm and welcoming school. I'm grateful my kids get to go to school there!

We switched schools after my older kiddo was completely overwhelmed at one of the larger schools. When we toured the school, the calm but cozy/intimate vibe of the school made us excited but I must say, the actual experience has exceeded our expectations. Our kiddo who was once struggling, now loves to go to school, loves to learn, and is generally feeling accountable in a more intimate environment where he is not anonymous. The staff and parents are all approachable and helpful. We get so much feedback from the teachers, which is in stark contrast to how it was at our previous school. Could not be happier with our decision.

Our family LOVES Flatirons. My 1st & 3rd graders are excited to go to school ever single day of the year. My younger kids cannot wait to attend. The teachers are incredible, the principal is awesome, all of the support staff are amazing. The parent community is warm and engaged. And the school is small enough that my kids seem to know everyone. I really can't recommend the school enough!!

I can't say enough great things about this school. My 3rd grader on a Monday morning when we were walking across the playground to get in line said, "I love Flatirons!" After kissing him goodbye, I walked away with tears in my eyes! He has ADHD and has had a hard time with learning in the beginning. To hear him say that he loved this school was the ultimate endorsement and made me so glad that we had open enrolled him. This school is full of people who care about your kids and celebrate right along with you when they accomplish things. There's a reason that the paraprofessionals (think teacher's aides) and office staff, all had kids who went to the school and after there kids moved on, they stayed. Some of them have been there for 20+ years. It's just that wonderful, warm welcoming place that you just can't leave.

I'm so glad that my kids have had the opportunity to attend a small school full of smart, fun, caring and effective teachers and staff. They feel confident and safe at school, and it shows in their academics!

Fantastic. We have two kids (3rd and kinder) at FES and they go to school each morning excited to be there and eager to learn. The school is a warm, welcoming environment where the teachers and admin care deeply about not only the students - but their families as well. We have been thrilled with our experience and Flatirons and can't recommend it highly enough.

My son has had 6 years of highly competent, kind, engaging teachers. He has felt safe, loved and cared for. Also, he has a blast! There are so many opportunities to engage in the Flatirons community, extra curricular activities after school every day, and music, art, a maker lab, community garden, and other things such that there is something for everyone. Outstanding!!

Idyllic experience at Flatirons so far. Amazing group of families in a wonderful neighborhood setting just below the Flatirons near Chautuaqua park. Flatirons also has a very personable, caring principal who provides wonderful, positive leadership for the school.

Flatirons has been an exceptional place for our daughter. She attended kindergarten and is currently in first grade at FLE. Her kindergarten teacher was unbelievably good at energizing the class and getting them excited about school and the process of learning. By the end of the year, they had researched, drafted, and presented a report on their findings about Africa to the parents. It was quite impressive. My daughter learned to read and is, importantly, excited to actually do it. The parent community seems to be strong and getting stronger. We have had nothing but great experiences and are excited for more to come.

It’s been amazing so far. The principal has really gone above and beyond to support both of my kids in what they need. Both of my kids have wonderful teachers who are happy to communicate easily with parents and really care about their learning. The front office is very warm and welcoming and really a good first impression to the school. The class sizes are for the most part small, about 20 kids per class and some para support. It’s truly been an amazing school.
