My son has been at this school since January 2023. We have experience the the worst teacher interactions. There’s a huge lack of communication, they send home 1000 seasaw messages with all this info and call with this long drawn out recording from the principal. But the teachers directly, you have to beg to be informed. The have an unhealthy obsession with discipline. They lack a sense of urgency when it comes to students who struggle academically.

My husband and I adore this school. I have 3 children that attend. One has a IEP. The oldest is in 4th grade. They are very quick to call and inform me of any incident/accidents (of course with children and over the years this will happen) whether another child has hit one of mine or in one case mine hit another. In each case I felt like it was handled professionally and appropriately. Almost a 1,000 children attend this school. Keep this in mind. My children excel at this school. My daughter takes violin lesson during school I believe I paid 25$ for this. The principle is an incredible human. Also I am NOT from this area so I am not partial. I do not work for this school or district. She (the principle) is intelligent kind and firm. She is loved by her staff. They take safety seriously. They take bullying seriously. I attended expensive private school all my life and I really feel like this is a quality school. I cannot believe we receive this quality of education for free. I understand everyone has a different experience but I have a hard time seeing why or how this school does not have more stars. Please keep in mind the large volume of children that attend from 3k-5th grade.

My son loved BSES last year. His teacher was kind and the principal is awesome. I had no problems with the drop off. The pick up is slow because they take the time to make sure each child is picked up by a permitted person. They care about the children and it shows. His homework was more difficult than I thought he could handle but he did great! I have had kids in three of the area schools and BSES is the best of the lot.

Children are treated like cattle. Drop off and pick up feels like you are dealing with the prison system. Teachers are only slightly better than the horrendous teachers you have to look forward to at BSIS. I wish we would have moved out of this area completely. South Carolina has a reputation for lack of intelligence and small minds and this school is a prime example why!!

Not happy at all with my child's 2nd grade teacher. SHE is the bully and isn't afraid of being told so. She calls herself LOUD AND PROUD (of what, I'm not sure), but, my child was at the top of her class (and still is academically), however, comes home crying from being embarassed at least 3 days per week by her teacher. It's ridiculous, and if I could, I'd homeschool in a heartbeat.

This school is a complete and utter embarrassment to the State of South Carolina. I have had many experiences with other schools and districts and this school is by far-- and I mean BY FAR-- the absolute worst experience I have ever had. It was terrible to send my child there every day and have to feel like they were false-faced and anti-parent. If you have a child with an IEP, think twice about choosing this district. Otherwise, make sure you are a strong advocate. All in all, if you are considering moving to this area, be prepared for what you will get there. I read these bad reviews and I moved my family there anyway, thinking that these might not give a true perspective of the school. They do. This school has totally lived up to the bad reviews and then some. I am moving my family out of here-- it is THAT bad.
