My son has attended Olson since 6th grade (now in 8th), and Olson has been great for him. As a whole, he has teachers who really care and put forth a lot of effort in making sure the parents are completely aware of what's going on in school. They are also willing to put in time to make sure your child can go in to ask questions, retake tests, do make-ups, etc. Even though the principal Mr. Lee left at the end of my son's 6th grade year, it seems like Mr. Kuhns is a strong replacement.

My school is generally a good school with good teachers. After the former Principal Tom Lee left it has hit some rough patches. Now with the district lines redrawn a lot of kids that don't care about education are attending Olson. So far my experience has been good. Not everyone is going to have the same opinion but overall it should be rated and seen as a good school.

When Mr. Lee was recruited to be principal to turn the school around it did well but when he left everything went south. Bullying, self cutting, illegal drug use, teacher disrespect, etc... In rampant in that school and the leadership could care less. Counselors spend more time trying to be friends with students than to fulfill their role as "counsel." Teachers are not educating, they give exams and homework and if you fail the students just do it over til they get it right so grades don't truly represent your child's level of success. I explored other schools and was told my child would not be able to transfer into honors elsewhere since Olson does not meet the level of education that other Minnesota schools offer. Think twice before sending your child here.

Great school!!! Our daughter has some attention and focusing issues yet for the first two trimesters of her 6th grade she got great grades due to her hard work, but more importantly due to incredible teachers that are there for her. I get my e-mails returned, I get my requests for class notes answered when she misses something, etc. etc. Kids are held responsible for their work and being motivated and helped. They have a great system of "Target Learning" so each kid knows exactly what to study for a test. They have "Academic Seminars" twice a week where you can come if you did not do well on the test and the material is reviewed and can retake the test when new learning is shown. If you did great on the test, they provide extra instruction during Academic Seminar for those kids. Great System!!! Mr. Lee is the best "captain of this great ship", great judgement, very involved and kids admire him and listen to him. He is one in his own class. Also, if there are any behavioral problems and they know about it, they deal with it. Missbehavior, distracting other students, etc is delt with swiftly. Love this school!! My daughter feels "at home" there. Best Middle School in Bloom.
