I have 3 kids at Hiawatha, and in the last 6 years I've seen this place really improve. Most teachers really work hard and the administration goes the extra distance all the time. The new teachers they have brought on have been great hires who are really committed to child development, and I've been very impressed with the wisdom of the experienced teachers. They have good after school events (doing what they can for covid) and the music teacher has built a good program. The rest falls on parents who need to read with their kids and support their learning. Watch Morton improve as these kids get up to high school. Kids need more homework, and some structured extra practice that matches up with their school lessons.

As someone who is now a college student and went to great other schools, Hiawatha has been the worst experience of my life.

I've never had any issues with the teachers or school . When my daughter told me she was bullied by a student i called the school right away and demanded they did something within the next day it was resolved. they have many activities for kids as well.

The teachers aren't bad, my daughter went here for 2nd and 3rd grade. This was unfortunately one of the worst experiences I have had with a school system in all the years either of my 2 oldest have been in school. The office faculty and principal are NO help at all. They are very stuck up and being a "south Berwyn" school they seem to look down on people that they seem to feel are beneath them. I had MANY issues with the school secretary on multiple occasions, the social workers don't seem caring they seem to be borderline nosy and worst of all there is zero communication. I have brought my issues to the school superintendent and have YET to receive a response.....almost 6 months later. Her teachers this year are sweet and nurturing. The school in general is a joke. Not to mention they did a "mock election" and instead of instilling in our children the right of choice, they shoved their own political views at them. This is NOT teaching that is influencing.

My daughter went to kindergarten and she excelled. The teachers r great . You get sent emails so ur up to date with everything going on. They have sports and sometimes fitness family day. Mrs.Surma was my daughters teacher and she loved her and has taught my daughter to read at 2nd grade level . Parents can also go in and be more hands on and become a super MOM OR DAD and help teachers out and etc. I was really thinking of switching my daughter to a school close by but after the reviews i seen about the school, Nope ! I rather drive few blocks more to keep her here . They get to take there ipads or laptops home eavh day, and they learn so much from it ; its not just for games its educational games ! And the principal is ALWAYS present.
