Benton Middle school doesn’t care about mental health. If you are missing assignments the World is going to end and they will lock you up in a room all day with kids who get in trouble. I don’t know why I fell for the “Benton has the best schools!” They lied. It’s a small town so obviously the ones who say it’s the best is the ones who grew up here and know everyone. The only school in Benton that is the best is Kingston Elementary. They even make plans for your child without informing you or getting your consent. I didn’t know the administration has the right to make decisions for you! Controlling much? Shady! Very shady. I would not recommend this school at all. We are military and never once had a problem at schools. Usually the schools we been to care about the student mental health or well being. Here is about school ratings to make them look good. They don’t care what it takes. Even the vice principal said on the phone….” I don’t care what your child is going through and I don’t want to know!” What kind of school is this???

Honestly, this school was kinda eh. Teachers could care less about people being mean and such, but if you have one missing assignment then apparently the whole world is gonna end. Kids here are ruthless , I might add, it’s like they don’t have anyone to tell them that it’s wrong to be mean. Wow, shocker. They focus so much on grades more than mental health, it’s concerning. They like to say they are the best school around, but don’t believe that lie. Unless you’re popular, you won’t have a fun time here. The only thing I could give props to is how much pride they put into themselves and the school.

We are a military family that unfortunately had to endure this school. Barksdale family members use extreme caution when taking the word of others that this is the "best" school in the area. What people in this area mean when they describe "best", means rich & mostly white attend here. My child tested poorly the very first year we moved here. My child had been living overseas and was trying to adjust. As punishment, the following year she was put in classes with children who have known reputations for causing trouble & children with special needs. The principal told me flat out she was put in there because she was a poor test taker! When I confronted him on the issue I was told I was overreacting. All of this, despite the fact that my child has been on honor roll every quarter she has attended. In two years, my child has been treated as an outcast by the school. She is harassed daily in class, and at this point has even been sexually harassed. My child has witnessed more physical fights than she has ever witnessed anywhere else, too. The school does absolutely nothing. As long as those test scores are where they need to be, anything goes! They will continue to have the facade that they are best. And maybe for Louisiana this is stellar opportunity, but for my child it is not. Again, military families use caution. There is a bias against those who are not from here.

I think this school relies too heavily on Illuminate and technology instead of human interaction.

This is our fifth year having a student at Benton Middle as well as my being a substitute teacher. Each year I am more and more impressed. This year is no different. The new "5 block" schedule is wonderful. It allows more time for the teacher and students to really dig into a subject. Also, it gives more time for different teaching strategies like journal time, group work as well as individual work time. I'm very impressed with our teachers. I love sitting with them during the lunch and hearing about their classes and students. These people DO care about their the students under their care!

I just moved out of Lousiana, and i couldn`t be happier. I know some people like it there which more power to you. I feel like my school now is much better. I don`t like the uniforms it just feels bland, and boring, and uncomtable to me. Also i don`t like how you can only choose 1 exploritory, and there`s not much vartiy. However if you like the school good for you, but i just didn`t like it there.
