We enjoyed our time at Douglas elementary! These school ratings are so ridiculous some times. Staff and academics are amazing. Highly recommend !

This school is full of amazing teachers, staff, and administrators! I could not recommend this school if I didn't absolutely love the way they treat their student body and the lengths they go through to teach amazing lessons, treat every student as their own, and make every accommodation possible! All this while they plan special parties and lessons for the students to enjoy and enhance their learning. Both of my boys have special needs (language and speech development issues, along with some small socialization issues), and Douglas, the teachers, the support staff, as well as the administration has gone above and beyond to help them, encourage them, and love them no matter what. And both of my boys have excelled with what they have struggled with by leaps and bounds. Douglas staff goes above and beyond, the extra mile and more. We feel and are so blessed to be able to have our kids attend this amazing school!

The teachers are excellent. My girls have transferred from a school that was suppose to be the"best" in St. Clair County to Douglas and I can say Douglas is by far better than the supposed "best" school.

This school is a joke. There has been no expectation out of students to complete homework for the 3 years we have been here. The curriculum is dumbed down. Communication between the school and home is nearly impossible. You may or may not get hand out fliers but are expected to view a crummy website to figure out what's even going on with the school. There isn't enough supervision to stop bullying. The recess monitors spend more time on their cell phones than watching and/or interacting with the children. The food they serve the children is terrible. Very unprofessional staff. All over disappointing. So terribly disappointing.

I have put 3 girls through this school and couldn't be more pleased with the whole experience. The teachers and staff are extremely children focused and provide the best environment for learning. It is one of the only elementary schools in the state to show progress EVERY year on ISAT and NCLBA. I credit most of that to the Principal. When you talk to her the first thing she asks is "How does it affect the Kids and what's best for them?". How can you beat that? High Academic achievement and caring staff. All my kids have gone on the excell at otjer schools because of the foundation they have. The only parents that I have seen that did not like it were parents of trouble kids that did not like the confrontation with the administration.

LOVE Douglas! From a nationwide parental support group I belong to, I heard horror story upon horror story about their experiences dealing with schools re: IEP's and other special needs issues. I was terribly nervous as we started dealing with the public school system on these issues. However, every staff member we've worked with has been super helpful - it has truly been a team effort to make sure that every need is identified, accounted for, and managed. The school and staff have been understanding, and my child's classroom teacher especially has been extremely proactive in making sure all our i's are dotted and t's crossed... to make the experience the best it can be for the kids. I agree with an earlier post, too: Parental support is vital in any school. Douglas has a good core group of active parents, & that makes a difference :)

I have had two children in this school and it was nothing but problems. I feel the principal was not to proffessional or understanding to all kids needs. Felt as if it was one sided and not for the best interest of academic status for the children. I love Franklin and Jefferson and feel the principals are excellent...keep up the good work!!!

I think the school as a whole is OKAY at best. They do not take the extra time and attention needed for all students.
