As of 2023/24 school year: the principal is awful and avoids conflict. If you have an issue be prepared to be ignored and avoided. It's not a bias on my part either. Several parents (well over a dozen) have tried to speak to him on the issue of a bad teacher, bullying, and sexual harassment issues and everyone has nothing to say but bad things. He has literally hid in his office and claimed he wasn't there. He has hid behind bureaucracy as why he can't address multiple parents at the same time over the same issue. He has bullied other staff into keeping quite about an ill fitted teacher instead of working on the actual issue. He has sent other staff to meetings in his place so that he doesn't have to report the event or move you ahead in the beaucratic steps necessary to report an issue and advance it's being addressed. In my experience all teacher but one have been superb examples of caring, with the exception of one who has caused many students to relocate to other schools and still remains while the principal supports her for god only knows why. I would highly recommend the school if not for poor leadership and problems being swept under the rug instead of handled.

We really love Kolb. Most of the teachers are fun and engaging. A couple are boring, but that’s with every school. The administration and office staff truly care about the students and want the best for them. I have students in the gen Ed and magnet and would definitely recommend this school.

I love this school. The teachers and principal are great. It's not that parents "aren't" allowed in the school, they have a morning assembly now and the students go right into the gym. Also, they do it for the students safety. They don't want random people walking around the school. I know almost all the teachers and I wouldn't say that they are snobby or uninviting. If you, as a parent, put forth the effort to be involved, you can be very involved. And they do offer many after school activities for children to participate in.

I will begin by saying i have children in kolb as well as MacGregor. MacGregor is amazing mostly do to the principal and staff. they are always involved in every aspect of the school. Kolb on the otherhand is terrible. The principal is almost never around. if you can find him he will most likely try to avoid you. the teachers are snobbish and never seam like they really like kids. i have dealt with several. MacGregors programs are almost always set up to make the kids and parents feel welcome and informed. such as the breakfast programs, after school programs, and pretty much any other for that matter. After the first weak of school at kolb parents arn't even suposed to enter the school. At MacGregor parents are always welcome! Kolb seams more like a punishment for children. maybe 10 years from now Kolb will have different staffing and things could be better, but for now i wish i could avoid Kolb

Despite Kolb being home to BCPS' magnet Gifted/Talented classrooms, the Principal shows no appreciation for academic excellence. It's absurd that such a large school district's best and brightest students (completing work two years ahead of their non-G/T peers) receive absolutely no meaningful acknowledgement of their efforts or achievements from either him or district Administration. Sadly, I suspect that this Principal's "inattentive" style also permeates his relationship with the school's teachers, several of whom are quite excellent.
