The teachers are engaged and we've had great success with this school.

I want to comment on the decision to censor a student's T shirt for proclaiming that she is a feminist. I don't know what you're afraid of. Truthfully, I wish everyone would wear shirts saying who they are. It would clarify choices for the rest of us. If I saw someone wearing a shirt that said, "Bigot," or "Atheist," it would help me avoid awkward conversations. A shirt that says "feminist," tells me that this is a person who feels a commitment to equality in the world and I would probably enjoy the conversation. Unless it had been specifically stated that no identifying clothing or objects were to be worn, it is an error to remove it. Suppose someone was wearing a necklace with a cross on it? Wouldn't that be the same? A proclamation of identity. If you do not restore the image of the original shirt, you should then airbrush every instance of statement of identity.

I was shocked to see that a student's shirt was censored for having the word "feminist" on it. As a retired elementary teacher with over 40 years in education, I think this administration has some serious explaining to do. This is America, where freedom of speech, within reason , is the norm. Are Christian symbols also censored, or other beliefs?
