I went to Thomas Johnson for ten years, from Pre-K to 8th grade, and I hated my experience there!

Very positive experiences at Thomas Johnson. Two kids in this school and I’m happy with their progress.

I have raised children and grandchildren and this is the worse school I have ever encountered.

The teachers and staff are always going above and beyond for the students. This school offers numerous clubs and activities for the students, as well a variety of after school tutoring services. This school even offers an after school computer lab for students that do not have a home computer. All the after school clubs, activities and compute labs are all headed by the teachers at this school, who are volunteering their time for our kids. My children and I are highly grateful for this school, because they have countless family activities, such as family bingo nights, family math nights, fall festival, Winter Festival, spring festival, and even family dinner nights. I could not have asked for a better school for my children and I . My biggest fear is when my daughter goes to hight school, and I will not be able to find one that is such a warm, caring and compassionate school as Thomas Johnson Elementary/Middle School.

We've been very happy at TJEMS. Oldest now in second grade and youngest starting pre-k this year. Great city school in South Baltimore.

School is run well. Children are happy here. Teachers are good role models and good teachers. The Spring Festival was really great. Thanks to Mrs. Raina Somogyi for all of her hard work in organizing it. The children had a lot of fun....We can't wait for this years Spring Festival!!

The staff and teachers keep Parents informed of projects, events and the academic achievements of the students.

Great Grandparents' Day. Teachers were lively and engaging. Three year old class had an awesome Mayflower re-enactment. Their word of the day was nocturnal. You should have seen all the little hands waving to define the word, wow. Pre-k were into math working on patterns. You should see the lovely new library. Just goes to show that the key to good public education is strong leadership, the principal, and caring teachers. With all the talk of under performing schools in Baltimore this school should be touted. The principal is still relatively new but the changes he has made are dramatic.

TJEMS has been by far the best move I have made for my son as a parent. My son was in the title I program 2 yrs ago to which I was given an option of schools for him to transfer to. Even though Thomas Johnson was not my first choice the school picked him up and I am truly grateful that they did. Since he has been at TJ he has been on the honor roll since he started in the 2nd grade and still is continuing into the 4th grade. The teachers are caring and loving to every student. My son love the ground Ms. Grinath walks on and he is not even in her class anymore. I dont care where I live in baltimore I will travel to make sure my son is in school everyday. Thank you Thomas Johnson Principle Dendinger, teachers, and staff for all you have done doing and continue to do to make sure each student get the proper education they need.

Great little school in the neighborhood, teachers are friendly, enthusiastic, and intelligent. The principal and vice principal are spectacular. Love that my kids are able to attend here.

This is an amazing public school in the city! The principal & staff are enthusiastic about the the education of our children and the parent involvement/PTO is huge support to the school.

I have been thrilled with this school so far after one year's experience. Excellent teachers, a principal who is a real leader, beautiful new library, and a terrific and affordable after-school program available. And the best result of the year: a child who has clearly learned a lot. I would move or pay a lot for my child's education if I thought it was necessary, and kind of expected to-- I was so happy to find out that not only is it not necessary, it would be silly to give this up. Hopes for the future are that the music program is expanded and diversified.

this scholl has gone thru a major transformation since principal Dendinger set foot 5 or so years ago. My daughter is going into 2nd grade and is excited to start school already. The teachers from PreK to 1st grade are exceptional and I have heard thet 2nd grade teachers continue on the same path. We have had the chance to go to other schools but we will be staying her.

Three years ago my husband, son (then 3 yrs old) and I moved to Baltimore so that I could finish grad school. We had no intention of making the city our permanent home primarily because we THOUGHT there weren t any good public school options. That changed after I visited TJ s open house. My son is going to 1st grade this year and we re amazed at how much he s already learned in Pre-K and K. The building is in good shape; the new state of the art library is remarkable; the teachers genuinely care about the students; the staff is friendly & easy to work with; and the PTO involvement is amazing. Before one of the reasons I refused to think of staying in the city was the reputation of city schools; now TJEMS is one of the reasons I can t think about leaving. Thomas Johnson is truly a gem and I can t express enough how pleased both my husband and I are.

Both the administrative and teaching staff are fantastic here at TJEMS. I was a student myself and am so happy the school has maintained the high standard of excellence. The office staff is always helpful and friendly, and I have never had a negative experience.

Last year was our daughter's first year at this school and we couldn't be more pleased with how the year went. The teachers were great, very easy to communicate with, open to new ideas and flexible while still sticking to the curriculum. The principal, is a no-nonsense kind of person and runs a pretty "tight ship" but is also willing to listen to new ideas and make improvements. The entire staff care about the students and you can tell the teachers genuinely love their jobs. The PTO is growing and is excited to continue to make improvements at the school. The over-all atmosphere is one of enthusiasm and excitement for the kids and for learning. This is a great school and we're so happy to be a part of something with momentum, where the kids are safe, cared for and the environment for learning keeps improving!

With having a child in the middle school and a child in elementary I can tell you the education they are receiving is wonderful. My children feel safe and the teachers truly care about the students whether they are in there class or not. We came from another school in the same district and it was a great move.
