If I could give this elementary school one star I would. This school is designated as the largest elementary school in Baldwin School District that services a very diverse population including general education and special education. The teachers are outstanding BUT THAT BUILDING PRINCIPAL ECHELE MAY IS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. REQUEST PLAZA SCHOOL INSTEAD

Thank you to the amazing Principal for turning the school around the past few years. She truly embraces parents concerns for a focused education and inspires the children with positive encouragement. Thank you also to the amazing teachers.

My child graduated in June of 2016. My experience here with the teachers and staff have been amazing. Echele May is one of the best principals you will EVER find. She is dedicated tot he success of her children. My daughter had great teachers. Although I can't name everyone some should be acknowledge for their dedication as well. Mrs. Kane - 1st Grade, Ms. Prochilo (now a 5th grade teacher), Mr. Magnani (band teacher) are just a few, so hard working and dedicated. My daughter is in the Middle School and doing excellent a 96 average. This would not be possible without the great foundation that she received at Meadow. She loved her experience at Meadow and Meadow will always have a special place in our hearts!

I have four kindergarteners (yes, quadruplets), and I was nervous about their transition to elementary school, especially since this was the first time they'd be apart from each other. The teachers and staff helped to make sure their transition was flawless. They absolutely love it there. The teachers and staff are so accessible. I am one of "those" parents that has already been in contact with their teachers a few times this year, and I always get a response within a few hours and I am always taken seriously. One of my daughters has an IEP and we weren't sure, initially, whether we wanted her in general ed or special ed. When we decided on general ed, the staff supported our position and worked to put services in place to make sure she succeeds (which she is!). They never tried to push us in the other direction. It has just been an all around great experience so far. With all you hear about the burdens schools place on kindergarteners these days, I feel this school has found the right balance. Their homework is challenging, but not overbearing. They have had a couple math tests already, but it was done in such a way that they felt no pressure and were not stressed at all about them. I really can't say enough good things about this school. I am so happy my children get to start out school on the right track. They love learning and school, and it is because of this place.

This school recently was designated a National PTA School of Excellence for its commitment to ensuring families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success. The principal Echele May has made significant and impactful changes instrumental to this school's continued growth and successes. The PTA and the school have collaborated to foster a legacy of learning, purchasing additional materials for the science laboratory, translation equipment, free book fairs for all students. The teachers at this school truly care about their students as well as the community they work in. They go above and beyond to ensure the success of the school. My childrens teachers have gone to the library on their own time to check out books for my child when they didn't have anything for the correct reading level, have advocated on behalf of my child to obtain necessary services, and communicate with me when necessary.

The experience really does depend of your teacher and their own passion for your child. There are teachers there that have a true dedication to all their students and others who put a minimum of effort to get through the day. When you get a teacher like that, it becomes a lost year and trying to address them is fruitless. The Principal and Assistant Principal are people who are clearly dedicated to improving the experience of the children. They're reasons I am optimistic because things have improved and even with the Common Core madness, the teachers who have taken the time to figure it out have been effective at explaining why it's not as horrible as many people think it is. It may not be how I learned but one teacher really opened my eyes to its benefits. A con for me is a lack of effort to assist children that are socially unskilled. In the classroom structure things work, but outside it becomes lord of the flies. I suppose this is most schools though but in an age where we see bullying being addressed, it would be nice to see this addressed better during free time.

My son just graduated Meadow at the top of his class, and I have a son in 3rd and a daughter in K. I have been beyond happy with the education my children are receiving. The teachers find ways to give them an extra challenge to keep them engaged. The school is a wonderful, caring and extremely diverse community. The new principal has put in some great programs to encourage community-building, academic excellence and responsibility. There is a renewed sense of energy and enthusiasm in the halls that is almost palpable. Overall, it has been a great experience for us.

My child current attends Meadow and is in the lower grades. The new principle makes all the parents wait with their children and younger children in the cold, snow etc., until the doors open - always opening a few minutes late. When you enter the building, the school is loud and children just walk the halls. The teacher is nice but cannot write herself and sends me home notes that I cannot read. The work my children receives is not challenging. He had better homework attending his pre-k. My son also has no friends at the school - being the minority, the teachers/principles and counselors do not encourage diversity and therefore, my son is left out of many activities. Good luck in your search.

My child had a very unpleasant experience at Meadow Elementary School. First, my child attended a specialized preschool and when she was ready for Kindergarten, the district decided to have her attend Meadow and that was a terrible decision. The program did not suit her needs at all. Throughout the whole school days, the teacher would have her barricaded, while she eats her shoe-laces, her clothing and perhaps anything else that was inedible. When she'd get home from school and I'd check her "communication notebook" there was nothing written on it, therefore, I never know how her day was. It was very frustrating. It seems that the whole staff was the same way. Finally, towards the end of the year the psychologist told me that she thinks that my child was in the wrong program. Finally, the following year my child was sent to a specialized school and she's doing much better. Every time I think about her experience with Meadow that gets me very upset. Also, what makes me more upset is when I compare Meadow to her current school; what a big difference!!! My advice to a parent of a child with moderate delays, don't let the district send your child to Meadow.

Meadow is a perfect example as to why ratings does a school injustice. This school has a big special needs program, which drives the school's rankings down. I am proud parent of a 2nd Grader who is at a 3rd grade academic level due to Meadow. Thank you to all the amazing teachers & support at this school!!

It's a good school overall the education rating might be low because there a special needs kids in the school. No one gets left behind in the learning process and the teacher don't tolerate bullying in the school.
