We have been at Bryker Woods for 3 years now and could not be happier with our decision to transfer in. A sweet, loving, supportive community where every child thrives. The smaller size of the student body enables teachers to focus on each child and for the children to feel that they belong to something special. Truly incredible and dedicated teachers that making learning fun, engaging, challenging and exciting. Love love love our school!

Amazing school that will be accredited IB school in Fall ‘24. The only IB elementary school in Austin.

We have had an incredible experience at this school. Both of our children love it. It is a very inclusive school, with a wonderful community. The community is very supportive and everyone is always trying to help each other out - it takes a village! The teachers we have had have been loving and wonderful. Dr Hill, the principal, is really doing wonderful things for this sweet small school, including getting the school IB certified. The more we have learned about the IB program the more excited we are about it. It teaches the kids how to solve problems, be critical thinkers, and creates a love of learning. I can’t recommend this school enough.

Bryker Woods is a small school with an incredible community. We immediately felt welcomed into the community and my daughter has developed such a passion for learning. We are truly amazed with how much she has learned. The new principle is incredible, thoughtful, and has made great changes to the school that benefit the students. The community events are very well attended and parents are very involved. Can't say enough great things about Bryker Woods!

Bryker Woods has been a great school for my kids. It's smaller than most schools in the area, but what it may lack in extra programs it makes up for with its tight-knit community. We've been here for many years and have seen a lot of changes (including some missteps), but I truly feel that the school is on a great path forward with effective leadership, caring teachers, an inclusive PTA and more diversity than in years past. I wouldn't hesitate to send my kids through Bryker Woods now if I had to do it all over again.

One of the worst schools we’ve been at that is horribly classist. The PTA is relentless and hosts bottom barrel events that are not inclusive ($50 tickets for 1 kid?). They don’t care if a student is academically behind until it’s testing time in which they give tutoring until testing is done. They turn a blind eye to bullying and don’t alert parents when something cautionary is going on— if a child is defending themselves or “snaps” that child is punished instead without looking into the situation. My child completely changed while at this school with aggression and depression. The pick-up/drop off is also very dangerous— it’s sort-of controlled by 5th or 6th grade that love to be distracted and talk with their friends and then you have parents parking their cars in the circular no parking zone and blocking the ability to pick up children. It’s also free and open access for children to walk off in any which direction which is scary since it backs up to parks and really busy streets.

I think it’s for sure not the worse school in our town... maybe even one of the best in town. And that’s why we are moving out of town.

It's extremely disappointing to spend so much on housing just have to end up going to private school. In fact, there are 12 elementary aged kids on my block in Bryker Woods and those 12 kids represent 5 private schools and only 2 of the kids go to BWE. The parents of kids at the school are rather involved and carry A LOT of the weight of the school. I think a lot of the kids are actually wonderful kids too, though there is some bullying that gets very over looked. There is very little communication between teacher parent unless you really bug them about it. I was really unhappy with my child's kinder and 1st grade teachers. I am so grateful he finally got picked by lottery into a charter for 2nd.

This was the most depressing year for my little boy. He went from a happy-go-lucky kid to a sad defeated kid. We literally are moving this summer so we can get into a better elementary school next year. We gave it all we could... volunteering, donating to PTA, being involved in activities. It just was not a great environment for him... probably any child... actually they need to just learn how to treat humans and they might be a much better school.

Horrible. The principal is in outer space and the staff trots along without any sense of reality because they think they work at the best school in town. This school is one of the worst in town. We are transferring out and sending a letter to the superintendent. Any staff member with a small percentage of integrity will not last working here. I have seen many good people get fired because they spoke up against the evil grain of propaganda. Bryker Woods is a not who they pretend to be. Run!

This is a completely homogeneous place. I don't just mean that almost all the families are white, which they are, but there is not much room for the children grow outside their own backgrounds and experiences. If you live in the neighborhood and love it, I guess you will fit in fine. This place will do a good job of keeping your little bubble intact and pushing away anyone who doesn't look and think and act in lock step with you.

Although I am in this school as a staff member of an afterschool care program for a short time, I found this school fits into one of the ideal schools that promotes learning in students. When it comes to student involving with activities with the teachers, I found they are very involved and are willing to learn from the teacher themselves even when they know that there are certain things that needs to be met. I found that because the school is small and that the students not only gets the attention they need and the parents involvement, the students themselves are positively affected by this and thus gives them the good experience they deserve. I found that such school not only fosters communication but also positive interactions between students. Highly recommended. The only downside that I want the school to do is to make the setting more like home for the 300 students in there since I notice those brick buildings makes me, as a teacher, feel restricted just like other public schools.

This school is truly amazing! The teachers are good, and the parent involvement is outstanding. The school puts on major events such as BXBW (Arts by Bryker Woods) themed after SXSW (South by Southwest), Fall Carnival, and Spring Fling. I also like that it goes through 6th grade, allowing one more year of elementary school. The school was founded in 1939, and has many alumni events. There is a large garden area, and huge play spaces. The environment is nurturing, and each child is supported. It is truly a community school.
