I’m a current student here and this school is draining me from the start ever since I walked in I knew this was gonna be a rough 3 years the staff is lame and half of true teachers don’t even know why and what there doing I’m in Technology and the teacher doesn’t know ANYTHING abt computers and she doesn’t teach the class at all and js sits there on her phone expecting us to know what to do and I have another teacher this year that won’t let me go to the library anymore with NO REASON WHAT SO EVER and she lets the boys go and not the few girls that ask she saw me fixing my makeup in class and told me to put it away and that im fine and she lets ALL the boys in that class make a gigantic tape ball using all her tape and lets them throw it across the room and scream fights happen every once in a while and nothing gets done abt it unless its a way that makes the schools picture look bad , and i understand that im not the only one in the school but parents arnt in that school they dont have to stay there getting over whelmed with all the homework where givin and the little time we have to do it i was getting practicality screamed at beacuse i don’t understand math like others do this school is draining and something needs to be done with it some of the teachers are fine tho .

I'm a current student here. I'm going to try to give a review that'll help people who will might go to this school. This school and its teachers talk a whole lot about how many students pass the STAAR tests and have good grades in classes. What I'll say is this is true, even ones that have learning complications do pass in grades. This is because this school does have a decent amount of wonderful teachers that teach splendidly and keep us all engaged. I am someone who is great at math, however I struggle with English and other languages, yet I've had very good language teachers that teach their lessons in an organized, easy to understand manner. Even if you struggle, most teachers will come to you and teach the information to you one-on-one. But the key word is MOST...I have had far too many teachers, who were quite unpleasant. I'm not just talking about them being strict and giving too much homework, these teachers simply don't understand the way a child's brain develops. They teach the subject through a slideshow, then they don't bother to help you and expect you to do the homework even if you still don't understand. Some have even criticized me for simply asking a question or making a mistake. These types of teachers can be super unpleasant for a student's self-esteem and even mental health, because of the way they treat and talk to students. Honestly, this district is super oblivious when it comes to the people they hire. Another thing, some teachers and other staff members are very unorganized and never communicate, which is definitely a pain if you're a parent.A huge problem in this school that is never addressed is the bullying and a student's well-being. Look I get it, this school as over 1,000 students who learn here so of course you won't know the problems of every kid. But if a fight, argument, or even talks of suicide, come along, and talks of it spread about like wildfire in the school, nobody will do anything about it. Something that I absolutely hate about this school that almost disgusted me, was that the principal and staff are constantly talking about how a peaceful, bully free school this is. PARENTS! THIS IS NOT THE CASE! I guarantee no matter how introverted your child may be, they will always hear talks of fights and such. And the staff does nothing, NOTHING about it. They'll only do something if it affects the image of the school, which is selfish and gross honestly. This school gets the learning job done, that's it.

My kids have thrived at Cedar Valley. The teachers are awesome! The principal is easy to work with and you can tell he tries to balance out policies to work for students and teachers. My kids are above average and they have felt challenged and not bored. The TAG/Advanced program is excellent. I have heard complaints about how below average or special needs students are addressed but haven't experienced it personally. The PTA is also very involved and really supports the teachers. The kids have really loved their elective classes as well. Band was/is excellent, the sports teams are competitive, lots of shows and performances and they have a good variety of interests to choose from (whether clubs or classes). I also love the school spirit at Cedar Valley. The first game I attended was a girls 7th grade Volleyball game and the gym was PACKED. So many kids cheering their school on! But the teachers are the best part. They care about the kids and most make the classroom a fun and interesting learning environment. My oldest is in his first year in high school and was completely prepared academically, musically, and socially. When comparing with friends in other schools, Cedar Valley seems to be the best.

It is a very unwelcoming environment for all students.

There is an inclusive community with people of many backgrounds. The facilities are great, and the school spirit is all around.

This school is more like a prison to students. It is a vacuum of our freedom.

This school is terrible. They do not do anything about bullying, and they take over 2 months to address an issue, and don’t update you on the situation. Their new phone policy is awful. They do not let you EVEN TOUCH your phone on school grounds. This is ridiculous because the faculty is constantly on their phones, stepping in the hall to answer calls, etc. The minute a student glimpses at their phone, it is immediately confiscated, and turned in to the office so you can pay $20 for it. They don’t understand that we have lives outside of school. I have a 504 plan, and a specific teacher doesn’t follow it. I can wear AirPods/headphones to help cancel noise out and play music to help me focus, I had my headphones on, and he said “You don’t need those. Off. Now.” I reminded him, but he didn’t care. He also gives detention for students charging their computers in class. The majority of teachers are uneducated and rude to students.Another teacher called me a waste of his time, because I made a mistake. He also has favoritism towards male students. But, some teachers are amazing, like coach Malloy, mr Richardson, and mr goocher:)Overall, this school is awful for all students.

Good school, needs to have a more diverse staff as it seems the core teachers are not representative of what the population of students is.

Mix of more homework than my high school brother combined and getting yelled at to "Let's go guys go!" by the janitor.

I was a new student at cedar valley middle school this year for 8th grade, I had a new experience at a public school, this was probably one of the best years I have had. I was in band, (played alto saxophone) I was originally in concert band, but then I was able to move up a band!(symphonic band) it was a great environment with many nice people, and I enjoy all of my classes, (team 8-1) all of my teachers are so nice and show much respect towards their students, I've had a great time at this school, I've made great friendships and great projects, I hope I can experience the same thing in high school (I'm going to go to McNeil High school soon!)

My child will be entering 8th grade this coming school year, 2015-16. The previous two years have been wonderful. She's had some marvelous teachers. One in particular was Ms. Julie Johnson. She is an exemplary teacher that goes above and beyond every day. Not only do her students learn a great deal but they enjoy what they are learning which can be difficult when it comes to math! Another superb teacher has been Ms. Kimberly Midkiff. Hands down she made Science cool again for my child. These are two of the best of the best!! Kudos go to Mr. Groff, as well. He's made the school pretty awesome! There's a great nurturing, supportive environment at Cedar Valley!! My emails have always been replied to promptly and I've always been greeted with smiles when visiting the school. An A+++ middle school in my book. Now can't wait for my second child to come here in another year!!

This school is just horrible. I can never get a hold of the staff or teachers. 7th grade teachers are incredibly rude and mean. Coaches only pick the same students for EVERY sport, which just so happens to be the same students they eat lunch with everyday... Assistant principle never returns your call. Kids are making out in hallways and cafeteria and no one says anything. Bullying is AWFUL at this school as well. Kids have an incredible amount of homework every single day. The office staff is very kind though. That's about it.

Mrs. Leslie Blanton is such an awesome teacher. She not only cares that her students learn, but also cares that they are taught good values and that she cares for them.

This school is great. However we had trouble with one sixth grade teacher not responding to email, not being responsible for grading of homework and lack of enthusiasm for teaching and only care about completing administartive activities and the minimal requirements for the job. All other staff, we had no issues.
