Unacceptable Lack of Supervision and MisinformationI am extremely disappointed with Stone Hill Middle School’s handling of student safety, particularly during dismissal. Today, my son—who has never been in a fight and is a good student—was attacked without provocation by another student he does not even know. The attack left him with a black eye and a bloodied nose, and the attacker ran away before anyone could stop him. No staff or administrators were present to intervene; in fact, the school only became aware of the situation after my son sought help at the clinic. To make matters worse, the Principal, Rohini Tohan, sent a misleading message to the school community, falsely stating that adults were able to intervene. This is completely untrue. There was no immediate intervention, and my son was left to handle the aftermath on his own. This incident raises serious concerns about the school’s supervision during dismissal and their failure to respond appropriately. How can parents feel confident that their children are safe if fights can occur without any staff intervention? And why misrepresent the facts instead of taking accountability?I expect immediate action to improve supervision and ensure student safety. No parent should have to worry about their child being assaulted at school with no protection.

My child says there are countless fights all the time, it is very unsafe and we even moved from the reckless bullying these teachers have. My child is Mexican and has been called a border hopper by many students… the school didn’t do anything about it.

The school staff, teachers, and administration are fantastic. Students and parents highly praise the teachers. The programs help the students in their development. The school provides an excellent environment for learning, safety, social-emotional support, and special education. Kids love their Sports programs.

This school has been disappointing to say the least. Many of the teachers my child has do not even teach. Even with multiple emails to the dean, nothing changes. Core subjects such as Language arts are lacking in curriculum and instruction. If the school cared, they would do more to support students. Very disappointed!

This school has awful administration. My son has been bullied since the start of the 2022-2023 school year and the school administration has failed to take any action. Constant teasing, shoving, and arm-pulling occurs. This all led up to my son receiving a brain injury because of physical bullying in PE class. A student slammed my son to the ground using equipment head-first. Only a brain injury motivated the administration to take disciplinary action. We have reported multiple times, yet nothing has occurred. My son reports the same bullying behavior from the perpetrators EVEN AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE DEAN ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. Do not send your child to this school if you value their safety: this school supports physical bullying and blatant racism.

Students are racially profiled. Black kids are not given equal opportunity. The administrations does not care.

Act like they care but it's a front.

Stone hill is a good school however there is a lot of competition. Students push to do the best they can which is good and bad, many students are afraid of failure and need to get the best grades to think they have succeeded. For example, many students think that a A- is the worst grade they can receive and their life is over because they got a grade like that. Teachers are good, however a few teachers baby the 6th graders when they are capable of so much more. I have seen bullying around the school though have not experienced it. Most of the bullying is cyberbullying or verbal not physical. There is a good amount of homework but not too much.

My son is flourishing here. I have never seen him so excited to go to school. The teachers are caring and if he needs extra help they contact me so we can work together to meet his needs. My son has learning differences and autism with above average intelligence. He is treated fairly by the administration, teachers and the students. Accommodation are in place to help him learn without giving him too much support allowing for an individualized approach. He loves the project based learning and projects are broken down into chunks for all students therefore allowing them all to be successful and to complete tasks that lead to projects they can be proud of rather than busy, repetitive worksheets.

This school is so amazing, and I have never seen such a great school. The kids are nice and inclusive, the teachers are good at what they do and make sure the kids enjoy the topic as well as master it, and the kids that come out of SHMS are the students who become leaders in our world. Would recommend to anyone.

6th grade is nice, 7th grade sucks, 8th grade is beyond. Teacher wise

This school is ok. Personally, as a student, a few of the teachers have quite a temper. I do not want to call them out but there are also really great teachers at this school

I attend this school and I really love it with the staff and the learning environment. I think that all new to Middle School should come here.

Our child was new to this school last fall and my husband and I were confident that he would have a pretty good experience at SHMS based on the research we did before moving to this school boundary zone. For the record, my husband and I attended FIVE different middle school open house presentations in Loudoun County and we were shocked at how much disparity exists among the middle schools in our area. For example, some schools have a strong honors program, some have a "blended" program - in other words, no honors program. And the list of differences goes on and on. Suffice to say, we picked the middle school with the best attributes and administration, and we love the level of diversity among the students and the academic rigor provided by the teachers. We highly recommend this school...and our student didn't just have a pretty good experience his first year at SHMS, he had an absolutely fantastic year! We LOVE this school.

Stone Hill Middle School is exceptional. We have experience with private and public (Flint Hill, Loudoun Country Day School), and SHMS outshines both of them. The administration is absolutely exceptional. I don't know how they manage to know every kid personally but they do! Classes are challenging. The kids are great kids. Parents are involved, and it shows. They also do a great job preparing them for high school through planned coursework (a 6-year plan), visits from Briar Woods counselors, and student visits to the high school. I feel blessed that our family os part of the SHMS community.

This is an excellent school. My daughter was an 8th grader when the school was opened and my son is now in his third year (8th) at the school. The teachers are excellent and communicate well with parents on their student progress throughout the year. They really try to ensure that parents are aware of homework and project deadlines. I have heard very good remarks on the principal and his management style from others that have worked with him directly. The school boys basketball team is very good and the 7th grader team won their championship during the 2010-2011 school year. The only recommendation that I would give is to integrate more the athletic accomplishments with academics. Athletics become more important in high school but SH middle school can put more efforts in getting exposure and recognition in the sport/athletic arena. The school has accomplished a lot since it first opened and it has to do with the leadership, teachers, staff and parent involvement and commitment.
