The quality of this institution has dropped off considerably. The budget cuts have hit hard and the teachers are overwhelmed. The Kindergarten teacher is amazing. After kindergarten though, you are better off with your public school choice due to the shortage of resources.

This is the 7th year I have had kids at Fox River Academy, from 3rd graders through 8th graders. The class sizes are reasonable, 20-25 kids per class, and I love the mixed age classrooms. Younger kids learn faster, older kids learn and retain better if helping the younger kids. It is win-win. Teachers generally have each student for two years, and really get to know the children and their learning styles well. Actually, the whole staff gets to know each child well, which cuts down significantly on the "get to know you" delays at the start of each year in a regular classroom. The kids do a lot of hands on learning which is very important in retaining what they have studied, and their curriculum is integrated and relates each subject to the others. The kids have frequent (weekly) learning field trips (not fluff) that get them out and learning in context with the real world, not sitting behind a desk. The older students are involved in many long range community projects, making our city a better place and them better citizens. Test scores show that the methods are working and students are excelling. I love the parent involvement. The teachers are fantastic.

This is a fantastic school with exceptional teachers. We love the dynamic, challenging curriculum that includes frequent (almost daily) outdoor exploration and field study that integrates all core subject areas. Students projects and presentations are at a level I would expect to see from students several grades higher. The kids and families are friendly, outgoing and involved, which makes for a strong community. Our previously shy, introverted son has not only come out of his shell in this environment, but has absolutely thrived. I would recommend this school without hesitation.
