My two children have had wonderful educational experiences at Eberwhite. While there is some variability teacher to teacher, overall my children's teachers were dedicated, hard working and caring. The 5th grade teachers in particular, go above and beyond in connecting with the students and organizing so many wonderful field trips, including overnight camp. My youngest is very sad to leave Eberwhite for middle school because she has bonded with her teacher so much. No school is perfect and of course there are challenges at Eberwhite as well, but our children have benefitted greatly from the educational foundation Eberwhite has provided.

My children have attended this school and although there are positive aspects of the environment grades k-4, I have unfortunately observed a real down trend in the quality of leadership and teaching several years and through 2023. I recognize the stressors faced in obtaining and maintaining high quality teaching and teachers--esp. post COVID. However, there are teachers in some grades that have come to a point of exhibiting bitterness, favoritism and yes as one parent noted, elements of passive aggressiveness and bullying from teachers to students (having non-flattering pet names for kids in their class, showing favoritism to some to the point it even makes the favorites not comfortable in class). More so at 5th and K-grades --it seems some of the teachers need to recognize bitterness and burnout in themselves and move on. Expressing these concerns to leadership / principal is not appreciated, and rather seems to create fear of more of a you/them atmosphere, instead of all-for-one for improvement. M-Line also recently published a concerning article about physical altercations between teachers and students and/or students/students, for which the district and leadership communication has been non-existent--this is not acceptable--but reflects a well-known and unaddressed systemic problem with the district. I am writing this only because what seems published recently is only positive --which is not truly reflective of the experiences of many--mostly because those unhappy simply leave the school and do not have the energy nor time to continue to rally against something that does not change. I would consider a different school for my children, especially prior to going into the 5th grade years.

I actually came to Eberwhite from another Ann Arbor School that had a higher reputation for excellence. My experiences at Eberwhite were honestly better than other schools my child has attended. The teachers my child has had have been caring, the community is warm and caring. I think this must come from top-down because one of the best teachers we had at another school is now working at Eberwhite. It is a good school and a good community and I recommend it.

We have been at Eberwhite for two years and love it. The community is incredible. I didn’t know any other parents when we started and made friends with many parents just from seeing each other at the playground after school (in pre-Covid times of course). With Covid I do wish we could have returned to school earlier but my son’s first grade teacher (Mrs Lindsay) does an incredible job teaching virtually and my son is thriving despite the circumstance. He also has an IEP and can be challenging at times but has been met with nothing but love and patience and support from the teachers and support staff. The principal Mr Harris is beyond dedicated, knows the name of every single student and parent and just cares so much. The PTO is active and works to build community even during this tumultuous year.

Excellent. My son absolutely loved this school. He started in 4th grade and felt welcomed on day 1. He has a great community of friends. Can't say enough about this school.

The feeling was comfortable from the staff and building. The building did look a little run down but it didn't feel abandoned or strange in any way. Could be a good thing because my house isn't always kept up perfectly because our attention goes to the kids mostly. I really feel this school is down to earth goodness for education!

Eberwhite has met all of our expectations and more. We have had three children attend over the years and have never been concerned about the quality of learning - it is top notch. The staff are highly organized, caring, and committed. The community of parents are welcoming and fun. Excellent transition to middle school which is just down the street. We love it.

Dicken is a wonderful community that gets better every year. Our 5th year at Dicken and this learning community has great leadership of the Principal and PTO. Students are challenged to excel. The staff spends a lot of time assessing and meeting the needs of the individual child. The PTO benefits from parent and volunteer involvement that allows educational, healthy activities throughout the year (i.e Dicken Dash, Dicken Garden, Community of Cultures, Super Science Day,,,the list goes on). In addition, Dicken is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood with tree lined streets and sidewalks that make walking and biking to school a snap.

For academically strong children, this school is pretty good, though a bit - as a previous poster put it - "tired". Alternately, they don't flinch when passing children with failing grades, and they lower expectations when a child and/or their parent(s) don't put in any effort. They are more concerned about looking good on paper, being politically correct, and keeping up the numbers than the actual academic experience of the child. Major disappointment for the kids who need the school's help the most.

Eberwhite has become a school more interested in productivity than individual students learning experiences. Bullying is a problem and is not only perpetrated by fellow students but by teachers and the principal as well. Of course, this outrageous behavior all takes place under the guise of what is best for the students! The school is so far from a nurturing educational environment it is terrifying. If you want your kids to be able to follow rules only and not to be able to think for themselves than this is the place for you. They are very busy making sure kids are productive and the school looks good on paper. I never expected such a unthoughtful, unsupportive educational experience would be what my child would experience in a well educated town.

Overall it's been an OK year for my kids. However it seems like things are really disorganized. The teachers seem more frazzled and are less patient. Even the building looks dirty and tired. Does anyone ever mow the grass, trim bushes or pull weeds?

We have been meaning to write this for quite some time, as we love Eberwhite School! The teachers work hard, the kids are happy, and both the current and past principal are and have been outstanding! This staff is receptive and works well with parents. The past principal worked hard at improving the site to make it welcoming to all families. Her dedication set the tone for the new principal, who is continuing on with a high level of service to the school. Eberwhite is a great place!
