Fantastic school with amazing staff. Students are well supported and feel special thanks to the staff. Teachers like being at this school and want to stay here. An active PTA raises a lot of money that is then invested in student success and in making the schools fun community. Staff provide many after school activities like maker’s space (crafts/STEM), art competitions, science fair, battle of the books, night at the museum (history projects) and sports (basketball, football, track, cross country, etc.). The French Immersion program and IGNITE (gifted class) offer extra learning opportunities above a typical neighborhood class instruction.

The teachers at O'Malley really get to know each of their students and how they learn best. The school as a whole is supportive and a positive place to be.

The teachers are excellent and O'Malley Elementary is definitely 5-star in regards to its teachers, its staff, and the positive attitude of the students who enjoy attending this small school on the Anchorage Hillside. If anything could be improved upon, it would only be because the facility is aging. The result of that, and the one major downside I would mention is this: Because the building is somewhat small, the gym doubles as the lunchroom. The reason this poses a bit of a problem is that the exit doors which lead to the back of the school have no arctic-entries. Because of staggered lunch times, the doors are open and closed continuously. This can make for one chilly lunch area! It's the norm for the kids to actually sit at their tables eating lunch in their heavy coats. They're hearty Alaskans, so no one complains... But if anything could be better at O'Malley, it would have to be to renovate this great old school. The lunch menu could easily be given a lower # too.. but then, all the schools use the same school lunch program for food delivery, so the simple way to avoid their pre-packed meals is to just send your child with a homemade lunch if you can. O'Malley School is a loving, caring, close-knit school and your child will have an excellent elementary school education here! One of the older, smaller schools left in the area... but its reputation has always been stellar.
