We are typically a homeschool family but my daughter wanted to try middle school out for the social aspect and is now terrified to go back to any school. I knew the public school system had gotten worse but I never would have guessed it was this bad. I’ve told friends about the experience we had at this school and they are mortified. Back to homeschool for us. She made friends with one amazing girl at school who ended up being pulled out during the middle of the year because her parents had it with this school. The art teacher here is amazing which is what she wants for her career path but, being terrified every day if my daughter is going to make it home alive isn’t worth it. Guns, bullets, weapons, drugs, vape pens, pepper spray, teachers & students with questionable TikTok accounts, teachers giving out their personal info to students, fights every day, and teachers being suspended if they protect themselves or another student in a fight. NO THANK YOU. No amount of education is worth this amount of terror. Luckily I’m a stay at home mom with an education that is able to homeschool. I feel immensely for every parent and student that has no choice but to attend this school. We are both so relieved she doesn’t have to go back there. I saw my daughter change so fast once she started this school and now she’s back to being her happy motivated self. While she was here she was depressed, forlorn, stressed and anxious. I forgot to even mention the buses, that’s an even worse situation and they had to keep going through drivers last year & don’t have enough drivers this year. Students will also airdrop inappropriate pictures if they have an iPhone. This school is H-E-double-hockey-sticks.

Family support would be helpful to improve student engagement and reduce conflict.

We just moved here this school year and they had very good ratings but now they have very poor ratings. Parents I spoke to loved it last year but this year it's a complete 360 from last year. Constant fights every day, to where kids are pepper sprayed, kids constantly skipping classes and not in the classes they are suppose to. My kid got suspended with a group of other kids because of the back talking and disrespect. They don't have full time teachers so our parent teacher conference was with 1 teacher. One literally emailed the night before and said she won't be there. Teachers don't stay on top of the kids making sure they are doing work. They don't communicate with parents well when we want information. Our kid struggles and it's hard to get any help or get in with the counselor for possible testing for IEP or 504. Definitely disappointed with this school.

Terrible school this year. We moved to the area 2 weeks after school started this year. It took a week and a half to get my student started here. Her first day they had her in regular classes and the second day they changed her to all different classes because she was in advance. Then it took another 2 weeks to get her on a bus. And now she comes home telling us about the fights everyday. The teachers are nice but the assisting staff not so much. I got a message that the field trip was cancelled for her because the rest of her team had too many write ups. They are letting my child suffer for others problems. I will be getting her out ASAP! If I could give it 0 stars I would but I guess the one will have to do or at least know its for the teachers not the rest of it. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE.

I went to Flat Rock when it first opened up. I stayed there 6-8 and my experience there is very interesting. 6th grade for me was great. The students were great and the environment was amazing. The teachers were also amazing to be with. They helped the students and loved to interact with the class Then 7th grade came. Things starting going downhill for the school. Fights starting happening. Students bringing drugs there. Drama. Obviously every school is going to have this but Flat Rock does not know how to deal with this stuff. Most of the students don't do their work. The teachers are great but I've had experience with teachers that obviously don't know what they are doing. Flat rock is known for its fights and drama. Test scores are said to not be that great. For some students they will have a great time. For some..not. Mines was in between. As 8th grade came close I was on my knees. I wanted to get away from flat rock. Now that I have.. It's a relief.

if you think about it , its all on how your child behaves overall. if they are good kids , then they should know right from wrong, and do whats right. no one pressures anyone to do anything they shouldn't do, and if they do, its not right, flat rock is a place where you either can choose to learn or not. It's been 3 amazing years there and now that im going to high school i leave amazing memories behind. I Suggest be friendly to the teachers, i can guarantee you, there will be one staff at flat rock that understands you. I can also guarantee you that you will have a teacher you won't like , but that's life for you. Middle school is about pre-teens finding their inner being and learning things on another level. Flat rock is definitely where you'll find all of that .
