Terrible & hostile work environment. Wouldn’t wish this place on my worst enemy. School is ran by an individual who talks down to teachers who have much higher degrees than him. The teachers are treated as if they are beneath the students and are often addressed like children. Almost the entire staff has to be subservient to the people who run the school and if you don’t do things exactly how they say they attack you verbally and throw you under the bus In front of your other colleagues to keep them in line. Many of the systems are not well thought out and are made at the last minute so the entire school stays constantly disorganized from start to school year end. Asking any questions is highly discouraged for staff members and if you ask any that they think they’ve already answered, they will demean you and talk down to you in front of as many people as possible. Many of the staff don’t talk a lot about this just because they are trying to stay in line and out of the way, but secretly all of them know that the people at the very top running the school have terrible attitudes and treat there staff like they are less important than them. They have high teacher turnover due to how they talk to and treat them. It’s so bad that within the first few days people will come up to you and warn you to stay out of the way of anyone who runs the school for fear of your job or confrontation. All of the worst reviews that I’ve seen about the school all talk about the individual who runs it and how he controls everything and wants to be the loudest and most important person in the building at all times. So if you step on his toes, watch out.

This school has great staff members that are ready to help at a moments notice, I’ve been here for awhile now and the school has kept improving ever since I first attended.

This is my children's first time ever at WPA. I have had more communication and information sent to keep my husband and I updated on everything concerning our children than we ever had! Staff and the environment are warm, loving, and friendly. My baby is a momma's baby and used to cry when he had to leave me to go to school. He is ready to go and doesn't want to miss a day. I have always been very funny about my children and how they are treated at school. I have no worries about any of that at WPA. Even though they have been in school a couple of weeks, my discernment is very on point and I feel very comfortable with my children going to WPA.

I am extremely pleased with my child’s experience at WPA. Very good communication by administration. I would honestly choose this school over all the other schools in Wilson. They go the extra mile to make sure your child is successful academically and personally. The school atmosphere is always positive, loving and caring. My daughter feels like she belongs there, like they are an extended part of our family.

As a current student at this school, I really enjoy it here! The teachers and staff are great! What I really like about this school is that they push us to reach greater heights in both academic and extracurricular activities. For example, I was placed in an advanced math and science class because they saw my potential and interest, and I also was given the opportunity to take a few courses over the summer. Contacting teachers and staff is very easy and they are very approachable. This school also has clubs including both Beta Club and NHS. The classroom experience for me was very fun and engaging! In my opinion, this is a great school!

The teachers seem to really care about the student's education and academics. The coaches do a great job of getting the students exposed to college coaches where the student could get full scholarships. I recommend it!

It aimed more toward having a good rating than preparing students for college.

Former teacher. The reason why so many teachers leave is because the administration doesn't care about us. We're blamed for things that we have no control over. When we seek help we're basically told we don't matter. The students are great and the teachers are amazing, but the administration is absolutely terrible. The "Executive Director" doesn't have any education background and has no right running a school. The consultant he hired from Ohio only ever taught for a year and he's trying to tell 5 year teachers how to do their job. The money WPA spends to fly him down from Ohio every month (sometimes more than once a month) should be invested in their students, teachers, and curriculum. When the administration finds out that a teacher is planning on leaving they don't bother to find out why or try to fix their mistakes. They blame the teacher and believe that WPA can do no wrong. And when that teacher does leave, they gossip about them in staff meetings in front of all of the other teachers. When I was hired I was told that it was a family atmosphere, I never felt like family there. When I was hired I was told that I would have support from a senior teacher, my senior teacher had never taught my subject and was unable to provide any help. When I was hired I was told that they were different from public schools and didn't believe in teaching to the test, the kids were given a standardized (practice) test every 2 weeks and they were extremely stressed. When I was hired I was promised full benefits: insurance, 401K, PTO, and a full 12 months of pay. I never got my 401K despite asking the administration several times and I was only paid for 11 months. They expect us to work on Saturdays for their "Saturday Academy" with no extra pay. They say it's voluntary but they'll hold it over you if you don't go, even if you have other commitments.Yes, public schools can be scary, but I would rather have my kids go to an established public school with a principal who has an education background than enroll them at WPA.

Excellent.... It is a pleasure to work in a school where students are “first”.

At this school I've never once been bullied. Could it be cause i've always been the highest grade year. The students don't bully for racism, culture or religion it's really respectful of your customs, culture and uniqueness! In some cases i've seen some bullying but the bullies always get what had coming and got severe punishments.

Depends on the year, and we’ve been there from the beginning with two kids. Some years are significantly better than others with more proactive instructors while other years are far far worse.

The teachers were great but the administration was awful to the teachers, students and parents.

They are great teachers and staff that truly are interested in our children. Teachers know the students by name and are willing to do anything possible to help them learn.
