Willits Charter School is an amazing school for 6th - 12th graders. They just upped their academic requirements and are requiring that all high schoolers must take a-g courses. The new Director has high expectations and is raising the bar for faculty and students. They have a wide variety of electives in the area of the Arts (Ceramics, Drama, Art, Circus Arts). Students cannot get lost here - this is a great school for students who may not fit into the larger school environment.

My son, with learning disabilities, had a horrible experience at this school. They put off my request for an IEP meeting and the teachers( including the resource specialist) were unwilling to provide classroom accommodations and alternate assigments for my son with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia. I do not reccommend this school for students with academic challenges!

Willits Charter School is a wonderful school where teachers care and every student can be themselves. There is very little teasing or bullying. The Friday Academy electives classes give the kids an incredible variety of choices and opportunity to learn about things they would never be able to in a traditional non-charter school. The academics in most classes are interesting and challenging. Most graduates from WCS want to continue their education.

Just read a very negative review of Willits Charter (the first poor review ever). The person who wrote this review obviously has a personal issue with the administration. The student body as a whole is respectful and kind with a few exceptions of disrespect as happens with every school. Willits Charter is still a very good school after 14 years and certainly the best option in Willits for small classes and teachers that truly care and individualize education.. The school does not have a high turnover of teachers and the core staff of 6 out of 7 teachers has been at WCS from 3 to 13 years. The administrator is new this year and cares about the kids more than I have ever seen. He is passionate about the school and its success. WCS has an amazing program with strong academics and electives that are incredibly varied for such a small school. Graduates of WCS will be attending UC Davis, CSU schools and one of the Claremont colleges. Many of our students will be attending Mendocino Community College next year. Both my children went through Willits Charter from 6th through 12th grades and had great experiences. Willits Charter is indeed a "Great School".
