This school district is no longer one of the best school district for parents and students for the following reasons:1. 85% of the teachers that teach in the West Bloomfield School District do not even reside in West Bloomfield or the surrounding areas. They do not care about the best interest of the students they teach, they only care about their paycheck on pay day.2. There are too many school of choice students who are not screened properly, who are bullies, and who don't want to be educated. The students in the school district who reside in West Bloomfield are being bullied by these schools of choice students from the Elementary to the High schools. All the administration can see is receiving from the state per child money. It is not about education anymore. The school district is run like a business for money.3. The school district has the businesses in West Bloomfield pay more taxes for millages to fund the schools Businesses are not going to continue to pay extra taxes to educate children who don't reside in West Bloomfield. West Bloomfield residents need to wake up. When we eventually find out that we have to drive miles to find services because businesses begin to close then we will understand. And where does the money go? To pay for a new middle school to teach these schools of choice students. And who knows where the rest of the money has went.4. Most of the people on the West Bloomfield School board do not have children in the school district any longer, at least 90% of them, but are still making the decisions and going along with the Administration. A while ago, the school board members were parents of children that attended the school district and they had the interest in how the school district was led and run. The school board members today do not care about who leads the school district for the best interest of the students or parents. 5. West Bloomfield School District is not the school district it used to be. We had great leaders, Dr. Grechko, Dr. Faber and Dr. Andres. They all were leaders who had the families with children who attend the West Bloomfield School District in their best interest, no matter what race they were. We may need more diversity in the Administration and the staff, but that doesn't mean the school district will be better if the people we do hire do not have the students or parents' best interest at heart. -A special Education Alumni Student

Graduated in 2020. Above average education. A diverse school, with an extreme amount of segregation. Having a plethora of cultures in an environment doesn’t cultivate or promote a diversity of thought, inclusion or intermingling to learn from the experiences of others. Although there is a small amount of racism, there is A LOT of classism and gatekeeping of opportunities to a specific socioeconomic class. My test scores improved, but I made 2 friends during my two years there. I have been to many primary schools, in the 10’s, and I have never had such difficulty making friends. Students here can be brutal and heartless. Lots of bullying that is not addressed. Very accepting of LGBQ+ people, but no so much trans people, I witnessed a few trans people bullied. In particular, their English classes are very good. I didn’t try very hard in school and my SAT scores improved by 400 points in comparison to my PSAT the year prior. Learning a good foundation in English here noticeably helped me excel in college. Also, this school has a history of students committing suicide, so please listen to your children and take care of them and yourselves emotionally. Decent community environment and most teachers, administration and faculty were great! A few racist conservative faculty mainly in the office, (overheard conversations in the office), but it’s West Bloomfield, nothing out of the ordinary there. Most leadership is white, all teachers are white and there is a lack of diversity in the leadership. Overall average high school socially, great school academically.

Poorly. I loved the varsity sports and was a 4 sport athlete. However this school failed to recognize learning disabilities and autism in a 2e student. I did everything right only to get to college and crash and burn due to lack of support for my disabilities. They need to learn about gifted people who have learning disabilities and or autism. I was bullied and still haven’t recovered. There are a few great teacher who shaped me to who I am. The students are a mixed bag so many cultures is nice but I did feel a bit left out as I didn’t really fit into a group. I like hiking and skiing. Most students aren’t like me. I can’t handle a football game. High school for me was isolating. I wish I could have a do over somewhere else.

I would rate West Bloomfield High School in the top 10% for its diversity. Over the last 50 years the change in the student climate has show diverse change in all ethic and racial differences.

Very positive. The environment is student centered, with a focus on the whole child, social/emotional, academics and citizenship.

A great administrative staff along with some wonderful teachers and a strong counseling department, both of my kids have done very well at the high school. There seems to be something for everyone here, from sports, clubs to fine arts. There is a strong academic program and support for students of all levels. While it's a large school there are many groups to get involved in, giving it a smaller feel.

The school itself is large and incredibly layered. There can be found many different communities within the high school. Basically any student can find their niche here, and I am confident saying that. I personally was a theatre kid, and the theatre community I found at WBHS couldn't possibly be replicated anywhere else. Recently, the school has been through ups and downs, but has nevertheless remained upbeat and lively. That is something that can be credited to the wonderful people that work at WBHS.

I have two kids. The oldest graduated from WBHS a few years ago and the youngest is there now. They're two totally different students. Both had/have very positive experiences. The oldest is attending a university in Michigan and was well prepared for college, not just with AP classes, but the regular science curriculum made undergrad science a "breeze". My youngest is enjoying all the opportunities the high school has to offer. There seems to be something there for everyone; from band, choir, theater, many sports to even more clubs. Both of my kids had some teachers that really motivated them to think "outside the box". EXCELLENT counselor(s)! The young administration is innovative and easily accessible to the students (and parents). Diverse student population. I would encourage anyone looking at high schools to tour WBHS before making a decision based on what others say.

I have seen nothing but great things from this high school! WB has more AP classes than any high school in the state. Offerings and technology are the very best, principals are amazing.

I have two students currently at West Bloomfield High School and couldn't be happier with the curriculum, teachers, and administration. Any school is what your kids make of it. My senior considered going to the International Academy and is very grateful to have attended West Bloomfield. She has had countless opportunities at leadership positions, rigorous courses, and clubs, such as teen court, where students are able to observe cases and interact with the district court judge. She will be attending a prestigious university in the fall and has an impressive resume to bring to the table thanks to West Bloomfield High School. Mr. Watson is an extremely dedicated principal and is admired not only by the staff, but the students love him as well. I highly recommend West Bloomfield High School to any parent or student who is seeking advice.

I have one child that went to West Bloomfield and a second that went to the International Academy. The contrast couldn't be greater. West Bloomfield had an excellent high school in the 1990's. It is not even average anymore. Don't take my word for it, check it's ranking on US News compared to Troy, Bloomfield Hills etc. WB is not even ranked. College readiness index 38.1%. By contrast Troy is 58.3%, Rochester Adams 49.1%, IA 100%. It is truly sad considering the level of funding and poor performance. This district needs a turn around which doesn't seem to be coming. I like West Bloomfield but would count on sending my student elsewhere for High School. Finally, the primary schools are excellent which is a further indictment of the High School.

We moved into and lived in West Blomfield for almost 10 years for a particular reason, that was for our 2 kids to attend and graduated from West Bloomfield High School. Both kids went on to a great Ive League university after graduation. During those years, we interacted extensively with their teachers and principles. In our humble views, WBHS offers a unique and highly challenged learning and extracurriculum environment to our kids. We believe that WBHS is one of best high schools in Oakland County of Michigan, and we highly recommend it to other parents who want an excellent education for their kids.

We are the parents of three students- one who has previously attended WBHS, and two current students. From our former student, who is an "average to below average" student, we know that staff and teachers are outstanding, and students leave this institution well prepared. From our current students, we know that the school is disciplined and well-run, culturally diverse and tolerant, and responsive to parent inquiries. Administration, especially the principal and athletic director, are very effective and in touch with students and building culture. What a great school!

We have two students who attend WBHS. Our experiences have been indicative of those in the real world...1) Teachers who underestimated our son due to his outward appearance who quickly acknowledged his drive and determination to succeed, 2) Administration/staff who addresses parents' concerns in a timely manner, 3) A curriculum that is challenging and full of varied courses in many disciplines (As an educator, this was of utmost importance to me), and 4) A student population that is culturally diverse. The teaching staff is not very diverse, therefore; perceived stereotypes prevent some teachers from treating all students equally (This is district wide not just at the high school). Some students are encouraged to take Honors/AP classes, whereas, others must petition to do so, some are encouraged to engage in athletics, and so forth. Nevertheless, we have encountered some teachers that are absolutely doing what they love...teach. Our children have walked away with valuable lessons due to both positive & not so positive encounters with teachers. We are a school of choice family driving from northern Oakland county; we know our kids are an asset to WBHS in more ways than one.
