I was very disappointed with our experience at this school. From the very beginning in fact- during ‘Meet the Teacher’ night it was extremely disorganized. We had no idea which teacher our son would be assigned to until the night was ending. I felt that the school staff were biased toward families of color and those of a different religion- I never felt welcome and I often worried for my son, and how he was being treated while in school. In the beginning my son was happy to attend school but soon began saying he didn’t want to attend and didn’t like school. My son has always been a happy kid and the change was very concerning. My son was being bullied and assaulted and the school did not contact myself or my husband. We had to contact the school and they were not helpful. The Principal chose to have a meeting with our son instead of communicate with us. She relayed she was developing ways to decrease bullying but never got back to me to keep me aware of any changes or progress being made. The only positive thing that I can think of is the PTA and how the members really cared for the students and wanted to make sure the kids who were less fortunate had an opportunity to participate in school events that came with a cost. I am so happy with the new school my son is with now- it is the exact opposite of Pleasant Lake. From the moment we contacted the school to enroll him, we were greeted with such warmth and hospitality. Each staff member in the school has been so pleasant and welcoming. My sons teacher has been so kind and loving and I can tell she cares. I am excited for the upcoming year because I feel confident he will have another great experience. I am thankful to God for blessing us with a school that is conducive for us! I just wanted a place where we would feel welcome, seen, valued, and able to be involved in our sons learning journey. Thankfully, we have been blessed with his current school.

I've had four children in this school, and my experience has been great. Mr. Maktari is a wonderful leader, and so is the office staff. The teachers are outstanding, and committed to the students education. No school is perfect though. I wish the kids would get more homework and be challenged more academically. However, overall they offer a lot, and are supportive of atypical/special needs students and families.

My overall experience at this school is great. My son has been there for K and 1st and my daughter for K and I can not say enough wonderful things about their teachers. They care so much for their students and work very hard to get each student involved and learning beyond the levels they are suppose to be at. Their teachers always keep me in the loop with what is going on in class. I get emails on a regular basis updating me on anything and everything! The principle is very nice and the kids seem to like him as well. Overall, a very great elementary school! They also have book club in the summer, which is a plus! My kids always looked forward to it.

I'll start off by saying my son came from a Catholic school background and the transition went very smooth. He loves his bus driver, and as a plus, she's always on time and sometimes a little early. His kindergarten teacher is AMAZING and constantly keeps the parents abreast of what goes on inside the classroom. Now for the bad, This principal Maktari needs to find another school. There have been countless physical incidents with students and he brushes them off( no parent meetings for the habitual offenders, etc), he pretty much forces you to sign up for PTA to get your $20 but then refuses to send emails or keep in contact regarding meetings(even after reaching out and stating you want to be more involved), and his entire demeanor is not genuine. I don't know if its because its "West Bloomfield" and he just looks at this as a status, but these children deserve better. He's not a leader in my book and my child will NOT be returning in the fall!

This is my daughter's 2nd year at Pleasant Lake Elementary. We are extremely happy with the school. The teachers are caring and extremely invested in the success of the students. The principal is very approachable and consistently available to the students and parents. The parents are very involved. The PTA is great, organizing many fun events throughout the year that contribute to the wonderful culture at this school. My daughter feels very comfortable and happy to go to school each and every morning.

Pleasant Lake is a wonderful school. My son started Kindergarten last fall and his teacher is amazing. He work hard with the children both academically and personally. The Principal cares about the students and is a great supporter when it comes to activities and fundraisers.

My two boys have both gone to Pleasent Lake and I can not say enough about the teachers, principal, and staff! My older son started at PLE in 3rd grade and has had the most amazing teachers that work very hard to understand the differences in each child, both academically and personally. My younger son started in Kindergarten and is now going into the fourth grade. Each child is valued for their individuality and personal strengths. And I love how emphasis is placed on longterm success! The only complaint I have is that last year they closed two elementary schools in the district and although they brought in more teachers, the building is very congested.

Great school overall, could stand to have some more personable staff, but really good learning environment.

Good School. My son is in 3rd Grade. His Teacher cares not only about the academics of the student, but about the overall personality development. I like The Principal too, he is very personal with everyone/everything. They focus on bringing out leadership qualities in children.
